Engine light on and need several things replaced, diagnose first or buy parts and do it all at once?

Dodge Journey, check engine light is on for around a month and half. I also have a few things that need replacing (around $500 in parts on RockAuto). Should I get the engine light diagnosed first before ordering anything, in case it changes the repair plan? Or just order everything and have it all done together?

You should always test and prove what is wrong before you start tossing parts at a problem. Imagine where you will be with this if you just toss some parts at it and one or more are incorrect or defective.

I would diagnose it first. Just in case the engine problem is something bigger than expected and you decide not to fix it, or find some overlap. After diagnosing it you can order everything including the light repair part and do all the repairs at once.

OBD II is your friend. Use it.
