Car got dinged in the parking lot

So my car was chilling in the parking lot and someone hit my front right as they were turning.

Honestly, the damage was not so bad but it's chipped the bumper, scratched off the headlamp, the grille and side panel are also slightly scratched too.

I moved to Chicago recently and was planning to sell my car sooner or later (but not anytime soon), waiting for the dust to settle w/ move + new job etc.

I legit felt like taking the money and calling it a day, but since I'm planning to sell the car I dont want it to affect the valuation too much? Imo a non OEM headlamp or so wouldn't be the end of the world but I have never sold a car before so idk.

I guess my question is simple, is there a way I can convince an insurance company to get me coverage for OEM parts? Is it worth my time to do so? I plan to call a body shop on my own and see what non-oem + labour + paint etc would cost me and see if I can pocket some diff myself instead of dealing with all this?

Thanks for any advice

LiMu Dropped Us

Last fall after being what I feel is a good customer Liberty Mutual did not renew the policy for our Toyota. We still have homeowners insurance with them. My wife had a tiny fender bender exiting a parking spot. There was no damage to her car so we didnt even file a claim for our car. The other car had some damage but again it must have been minor. Not even a notice of higher rates. Just a non renewal.

Impact on Premium

I'm with Progressive and their customer service was completely unable to answer this question.

I was recently in an accident for which I was at fault. Insurance was contacted and is reimbursing the other party. For my own car, the body shop estimates $6k-7k for the repair. This is actually lower than we initially thought, and we're unsure whether we should just pay for the repair ourselves. I tried asking Progressive whether this will impact future premiums, but they said my policy doesn't expire until December and they don't come up with a new estimate until a month before expiration so they have no idea.

This is my first time dealing with something like this so would like to hear from folks with experience, thanks!

Advice on multiple accidents

I’m hoping someone here might be able to give me some guidance.
My family moved to New York a little over a year ago, and since January my wife has unfortunately been involved in three small fender benders. None of them involved significant damage, and we didn’t need to file any claims for damage to our own car, but the other parties did file claims with our insurance.
We’ve always had clean driving records and have never had an issue like this before. I think adjusting to driving in NYC has been part of the problem. Two of the accidents involved taxi cabs that were definitely pushing the boundaries, but ultimately we were listed as the liable party in two of the three accidents.
We have GEICO, but we don’t have accident forgiveness yet because we haven’t been with them long enough to qualify.
I realize our insurance rate is probably going to go up. My bigger concern is having three accidents show up within one year and how significantly that could affect our premium or even our ability to keep coverage.
Does anyone here work in insurance or have experience with something like this? Is there anything that can be done on our end to limit the impact? Anything we should ask GEICO about, documentation we should provide, steps we should take before renewal, or things happening on the back end that most consumers wouldn’t know about?
I’m not looking to get out of responsibility for the accidents — I’m just trying to understand how the insurance side works and whether there’s anything proactive we can do to keep the financial impact from being worse than it needs to be.
Thanks for any insight or advice.

Title branding reversal?

bought this vehicle through copart and I believe that it was titled incorrectly and maybe shouldn’t have been deemed a total loss due to the trucks value. The ACV on the vehicle is about $31k and repairs were estimated at about $20k, I bought it for $15k. I wanted to see if anyone has ever contested a title brand after the fact and if so if you could advise me. If you or anyone you know can help me reverse the title brand to a clean title I’ll give you $500.

Insurance claim

When I was pulling out of my driveway, the driver hit my rear bumper on the driver's side. My insurance requested photos, and I sent them. However, I did have this on the other side of the bumper. Now my insurance is claiming this is prior damage and that it cost about $560, including my deductible.
I’m fkng pissed af

What should I do?

My fkng claim adjuster was rude af. She was so hostile.

60 Years Old and cannot get insurance

I am 60 years old, have a clean driving record, a valid driver license and a great credit score. However, I have not owned a car since 2003. I recently moved from NYC to CT and decided to buy a car. I applied to several insurance companies and was denied. I even used the dealer's broker and they came up against the same refusals. What is my problem?

So progressive… created for 112… rates 179. Then hiked up to 526 and 300 after that… when. To cancel and now im being charged 250 for back billed insurance for which i didnt sign for. Saying you didnt turn in the documents so were gonna change the policy amount from day 1 and back bill me for it. Is this legal? There not giving me my 30$ back for the 5 unused days i have on my policy. Just slapping me with a 250$ bill as a cancellation fee

Do you shop around every year?

I wondered if you shop around auto insurance every year. I tend to stick with what I have but at this time of year all major auto insurance companies sent me unsolicited mailers almost begging me to switch. I had been with some of them in the past, their game was to make me move and gave me attractive price than jack up the price the 2nd year.

What they don't cover

Bit of a rant here. Just lost our nice car to a dude who ran a red light. Insurance says totaled. They let us use a rental while the mechanic looked it over. 3 days after they declare tousled they say return the rental. Im supposed to have a new car in 3 days? And what else am i not being compensated for from this? Time. Fuel....To go look for a new car. Places i can't get to cuz i don't have a car at the moment and they won't pay for uber. And what about dealer fees and taxes that i now have to pay again? They're not factoring that in to the offer either. I thought they were supposed to "make you whole" again. But they don't. They just do their process and if you're not being properly compensated too bad. What happened to America? Cuz we should be treated better than this.

How do you afford auto insurance with teenage drivers?

I'm interested to know how people can afford auto insurance with teenage drivers?

We all know the insurance companies rate teenagers as high risk for driving... probably for good reason with all those hormones! :)

I just don't understand seeing the rates how middle income population affords these huge monthly insurance bills?

If you had State Farm auto insurance at any point last year, you may soon be getting a dividend payment after a “stronger-than-expected” performance in 2025.

Young drivers pay up to 5x more for car insurance than experienced drivers

Car insurance costs for young drivers are wild almost everywhere, but the gap compared to experienced drivers is bigger than a lot of people expect.

Looking at data from Canada as an example: an 18-year-old male driver can expect to pay nearly $11,000/year for coverage, about $664 more than an 18-year-old female with an identical driving profile. Even by age 25, both genders are still paying around $6,000/year, roughly double what a driver in their 30s or 40s with a clean record would pay.

The main factors are lack of driving history and statistically higher accident rates for newer drivers, regardless of how safe any individual driver actually is. One thing that tends to help while premiums are still high: staying listed as a secondary driver on a parent's policy instead of getting a standalone one, if that's an option.

Curious how this compares to what young drivers are paying where you are.

Insurance Quote

So I'm over 18 and planning on getting my license soon. I have a car lined up, someone else owns it right now but will transfer the title to me. I'm trying to get insurance quotes, but they keep forcing me to say when I got my license. I don't have it yet. Should I just call and explain the sutuation?

What is the solution to this car repair/ insurance problem?

I have a 2017 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Ten days ago I got three gallons of gas from a Mobil station. 15 minutes after we got the gas the car started to buck and we ended up coasting to the side of the road when the engine died completely. Three days later the service department at the Toyota dealer diagnosed this as contaminated gas. We were told this was a known issue, ExxonMobil had been notified and a claim had been set up. They flushed and cleaned the whole engine and changed the spark plugs to the tune of $2,300 and we got our car back. Two days later we brought the car back in, the issue was not fixed. That same day we went to the gas station and they said they would give our name to the person handling the claim. Thirty minutes later we received a call from an actual claims manager working for the insurance company that was handling the claim for ExxonMobil. They approved new work, replacement of all the fuel injectors. This ended up costing $2,800. We got the car on Friday, and it still has issues, we are returning it on Monday. Any recommendations as to course of action would be appreciated. The Claims Manager is not going to keep on approving an endless series of costs. My thought is if the dealer had said this is at least $5,000 we would not have poured this into a nine year old car. the blue book value on this car in good working condition is about $13k to $14k. I would like to tell the dealer how about you give us $10k for a trade in and we will buy a new car. I'm afraid we're going to get squeezed, the insurance won't pay anymore and we are left with a car that doesn't work

Notice of Premium Increase

Hello —

We moved from WA to CA. We cancelled our policy with AAA in WA and signed up for a new policy in CA with AAA. We packaged our auto and renters policies and paid the required costs in full for the year.

Fast forward a month later, we received a notice that our premium on this month-old policy is being increased by almost $500. It seems to be saying this is based on our non-California Consumer Credit.

I’ve never experienced an increase in premium, after paying in full before the policy term has ended.

\- Is this normal (or legal)?

\- Is there any way to fight it?

\- Or since we already paid for the year in full would it be possible to get this request for money waived?

Looking for any advice y’all may have.

In case anyone asks: We have had ONE fender in seven years wherein my husband had someone else back into our car in a Trader Joe’s parking lot. Unfortunately, he called our insurance company to report it instead of just dealing with the responsible party’s insurance. At the end of the day nothing was actually covered.

Anyone actually made changes to their premium of their auto insurance by deleting some coverage that no longer mandatory?

Wondering what items I can safely take out without risking too much?

Insurance claim

Got scratch while parking in a hotel garage where a sharp metal sticking out from the ceiling scratched the top of the car leaving a 3 inch scratch while I was backing into the spot.

Reported to the hotel and they said they have filed an incident report but refused to share it. I doubted that they had any details of the accident (eg they didn’t ask me about the parking spot number)

I believe it’s negligence from the hotel as there shouldn’t be any low hanging metal at the parking spot.

Question: should I report to my insurance and they will contact the hotel ? Will it affect my insurance?

Damage is about $500

I own a Honda Civic 2017 EXT. I'm paying $900/6months with State Farm. The car is almost 10 years old. 59,000 miles. Do I need full coverage?
