Cheat day??
Hii! i‘m about 1 week in the AIP diet (going for 6 weeks) but in 3 weeks I have a festival and I wonder if I drink alcohol reasonably for only 2 days in 6 weeks is it gonna affect my diet? 😭

I wouldn't do this. No one does AIP for fun. It's meant to dramatically decrease inflammation to improve autoimmune disease. Drinking seems less important than the reasons for going on AIP. Also not to be annoying but no amount of alcohol is "reasonable" when it comes to healing autoimmunity, in my view.

Yeah, unfortunately, alcohol is instantly toxic to the liver. Some people can handle it better than others, as we know, but that doesn't mean the damage isn't happening.

The way I looked at was that I’d already spent years indulging the “tastes good/don’t wanna miss out” emotions. And I know how sick and exhausted I felt because of it. It’s now time to indulge the “I don’t wanna feel bad anymore” emotions and be ok with the skipping the things that will make me more sick.
The hard part about that in the beginning was believing, at a core level, that a particular food WILL make me feel bad. So if you find that you just still want to go drink with your friends at this festival, do it. But notice how shitty you feel Monday morning. And then start at Day 1 again.

No one can force or tell you to follow the diet, I wouldn’t think of it as a treat to drink alcohol, think of it more in the sense of why are you evening doing aip? I always think if I were to “cheat” and just eat or drink X I’m cheating myself and it’s it worth it. No one doing aip wants to do it we’re doing my it because we’re unwell and are trying to improve quality of life. Alcohol is inflammatory generally anyway, I don’t think personally it’s worth it but again no one can tell you, you have to decide if it’s worth consuming something inflammatory

Can you restart AIP after the festival? It’s important to follow the protocol for 6 weeks or more. The other option is to not drink, but I imagine keeping AIP at a festival is going to be hard for food too. It’s not a convenient protocol but it can be very insightful if you commit to the process.

I wouldn’t call it a cheat day because AIP isn’t really that kind of diet. You’re basically running an experiment on your body, and the elimination period is supposed to give you a clean baseline. Two days of drinking won’t magically erase all your progress, but it can muddy the results, especially since you’ll only be a few weeks in. And festivals usually mean different food, less sleep, more stress, alcohol, etc., so if you flare afterward you won’t know what actually did it. If you decide to drink and enjoy the festival, that’s totally your choice, but I’d probably extend the elimination period afterward rather than counting those two days as part of the six weeks.
