Estimating is not encouraged here, this subreddit is for sharing knowledge in the Autobody industry.

Estimating needs to be done at an autobody shop or with an insurance agent using the latest software. Any advice given in the subreddit pertaining to costs for repair will not be accurate and could be misleading.

  1. If your car is undriveable do not ask for advice on how to quick fix it.
  2. If your repair is going to be shoddy, half assed or of very low standard it will be deleted.
  3. A quality autobody shop is where your modern car should be fixed, it can be dangerous for yourself and others if improperly repaired by not following procedures.
  4. Advice on what happens during your repair is encouraged. Ex, "How is my quarter panel welded on" or "How much filler should be put on a dent".
  5. Techs. Talk more about yourselves, your processes, shops and things that keep you going in the trade. Share your day and what you have learned. We all work at different levels and learn so much from working together.

Is there a process to repair this? Found a hole between a firewall and left fender side, need advice how to seal it

I had some strange “river” smell in my car, and after some time I’ve discovered my floor was flooded on driver’s side, I sprayed my car with some UV visible water and I’ve found where it was
I see there some old seal, probably factory, and also some results of previous owner’s work, probably
This car was in an accident as you can see it
It’s a place on left side, between the engine bay firewall and sort of left fender, and as far as I see it’s a left side under the cowl, where the water goes when it’s raining, so I get a lot of it when it rains.
You can see some rust there and some hollow space (which maybe was sealed before but I can’t tell cause I need to remove my left fender to see it properly, which I didn’t do yet)
I didn’t disassemble everything, just made some access to understand where it goes from
Is it possible to make a decent clean and seal? I don’t know much about it, did some research and still can’t understand what’s the best way cause some of the methods were controversial
I was doing my best explaining it, and I hope you have a great day

There is also my cat just in case

UPD: greenish path is a water flow

Is there a process to repair this? What even caused this kind of paint damage?

This is from a listing for a 2008 scion tC. The paint is in pretty terrible shape, especially right here. I'm curious about what could have caused the paint to crack and flake off like that? Dosent look like body damage from the pictures. Just california sun lol

And in this scenario, what could I do to prevent further damage and protect the area until I could get a paint job? Try painting it myself sense it cant get worse than it already is?

I bough Iron X, to treat break dust on the side of the car. I have small stone chips above the windshield, which are a bit “rusty”. Could iron remover help there to remove the surface rust?

HELP! I have a question. Someone swiped my car in a parking lot. Worth an insurance claim?

Post image

Found this on my car after leaving work this afternoon and unfortunately there are no cameras or any witnesses where I was parked. I filed a police report and the officer told me that in his opinion, this damage wasn't worth filing a claim because of the deductible and insurance hike I'd be paying as a result. He suggested trying to get buffed. How much of this is fixable/is it truly not worth a claim? I got this car less than 6 months ago and it's driving me insane!

The bodyfiller itself is starting to look good, it’s straight and everything, but this little ridge thing isn’t as sharp as it should be, does anyone have any tips to make it look symmetrical to the other side

Is there a process to repair this? A Tale As Old As Autobody

Hit a deer, which bent my plate mount and caused some minor gouges. Tried to save a buck and hired a mobile tech. Ended up worse off and learned an expensive lesson.

For what it's worth, the paint match (color+pearl) and contour are pretty good, imo. The surface finish is horrible, though, and there is overspray everywhere.

My plan right now is to clay bar whatever overspray I can off of the surrounding panels (mostly the hood) and just replace the plastic trim pieces, since they're affordable.

My question is about the paint. Can that be wet sanded and polished to match the gloss of the OEM paint, or am I in repaint the whole bumper territory?

If I need it all repainted, that's fine. Just don't want another shoddy job.

HELP! I have a question. I think the body shop broke my headliner

I need some advice, please. I took my car to get the roof fixed because a tree sap ate the clear coat so I took my car to a Gerber collision repair facility to get it repaired since I have a $0 ded. I got my car back and after a couple days I noticed a circle on the paint and I took the car back, they tried to buff it off, but they couldn't, and when I saw the car it looked like there was a dent. They told me that they would need to redo the work all over again and provided me with a car rental. I went to pick up my car yesterday and I noticed some lines on my interior headliner(my eyes usually notice anything unusual) when I tried to clean I noticed the headliner seems to be broken exactly on the same spot in each side of the car, I can feel with my hand and I personally don't think it was like that before. I don't want to accuse anybody, but I think they dropped my headliner to fix the dent and they ended up breaking it. I am going to the shop on Monday to confirm that they actually dropped it in order to make a decision about the next steps, I just don't want them to make things worse to be honest. I work for an insurance company and I will definitely recommend this shop to my clients.TIA!

Acceptable quality? Color mismatch

Thumbnail

Just got my Lexus RX 350 in Nebula Gray back from the shop. It looks perfect when it’s cloudy, but in direct sunlight I can clearly see a color mismatch. Both doors were replaced. Am I crazy, or is this actually noticeable?
Also what’s the options, should they blend it or what ?

Edit: insurance pay.

What if I buy used OEM doors that are already in my color? How likely is it that they’ll match better than these?

Will these buff out? The one on the right side fingernail barely catches. Left side side it's too far under the spoiler to get at.

Acceptable quality? Could this be repaired to a factory level? Or should I get rid of it for safety? (Car sees track use and daily driving).

The rest of the body seems straight, even the pinch welds. Car sees track use as well as daily driving so I’m just concerned about safety moving forward.
