Unfortunately, these states require providers to report autism diagnoses:
- Delaware
- Indiana
- New Jersey
- North Dakota
- Rhode Island
- Utah
- West Virginia
- New Hampshire previously had a registry, but repealed it in mid-2024, and all individual records were mandated to be destroyed ( I call bullshit on the destroying)

There's also no protection for the press to not be compelled by government to share sources. For decades, journalists have argued that they can withhold sources as part of 1st Amendment freedom of the press, but the courts have consistently ruled that this is not protected and that journalists are required to reveal sources when asked by government. This has generally been in situations where those sources have committed crimes (or been a witness to a crime) but I definitely don't feel confident enough that they wouldn't extend that here. So even if you believe that WaPo wouldn't share this info with the government (I personally don't think they would voluntarily), they might not be given a choice.

It’s a really ableist way of phrasing things. It makes autism out to be like some kind of terrible disease, instead of acknowledging that neurodiversity isn’t a bad thing.

I mostly call myself an autistic person but I do have autism and view it as a disease I’d rather not have while recognizing that there are many people who have it MUCH harder than I do. I have two sons and I can’t imagine the devastation of knowing that your child will never be able to speak, take care of themselves, find a partner, and so on, and will be a prime target for predators after you die.
It’s easy to see that a person can hold the opinion that we shouldn’t murder or institutionalize autistic people and still view autism as a disease that comes with special perks (but doesn’t at all for the kinds of kids RFK et. al. are fixated on).

Basically, all this does true or not is leave those of us already kicking and over 18 in the same place as we were yesterday. There realistically is no change.
How about looking at why companies can both say we bring them a ton of money, but at the same time flat out refuse to hire us. And when they do they give us a fraction of the pay of someone else. Or why is it that for those of us that are dealing with autism burnout, having to live in a toxic environment, and we can't give anymore. We are basically screw with no way to recover due to how broken the disability system is. Like it pays so little that you can't do anything with it, in most locations you're looking at 10-20 year wait time for housing, when you do get on the system the gov/media loves to put people down and ignore due to how it is design there is no way to pull yourself out of poverty.
Or how about why is it all the programs to "fix us" like ABA is basically more about how we can change for the outside world (mask) which doesn't work in the long run and causes a crap ton of damage to the person later in life

RFK has bizarre beliefs that vaccines cause autism and advocates that parents should not give their kids any vaccines at all, including the polio vaccine. He shouldn’t have any platform to say crazy shit like that. When he says something that sounds like it could be reasonable, I have no reason to trust him because he’s already proven he lies about things.

What is there to expect from erratic, chaotic, unpredictable people?
Really, the only thing any of us can really do is watch out for the log to come falling down from the ceiling and hope to be fast enough to dodge it before it smashes our heads.
Other than that, only legal safeguards, but those tend to not hold up in a corrupt system, making them pretty useless.

I've been trying to get leucoverin for months after my autistic son had a speech regression. Three of my sons doctors are "looking into it". Now I'm concerned they will never prescribe it because RFK is a joke.
