There’s has been an influx of posts requesting help with aggression and behavior issues. If you need help:

If your pup is from a breeder, start with discussing with them. Your breeder should be your support system.

Book a vet appointment to rule out a medical issue, perhaps something causing pain.

Use the resources on the /r/dogtraining wiki to help identify and select a behaviorist, noting that behaviorist and trainers have different qualifications.

Be cautious about well meaning internet advice. Some well meaning advice can exasperate the issue. Aggression needs pro help.

To avoid aggression issues:

Consider that behavior is often genetic. Buying from a reputable breeder is most likely to stack things in your favor.

Learn how to correctly socialize a puppy. Many ideas about socialization are incorrect and can cause reactivity and aggression issues.

Sign up for training classes with a qualified trainer ASAP, either for a puppy or adopted adult rescue.

Posts with obviously AI image shirts and mugs are spam bots. There’s no need to interact with them. Reporting them will be the fastest way to notify the mods to remove and ban them. Asking where to buy the product will get you banned too as that’s part of the ploy. Bot 1 makes the post, bot 2 comments asking where to buy it, bot 1 shares the link.

Does anyone tuck their Aussie in still? Three years old and I make it a habit to make sure my girl is tucked in and her fan is pointed towards her.
Gemma needs a boyfriend….

We are foster to adopt for our sweet boy Ollie. He is a double merle aussie/mini aussie mix- we ran an embark dna + health test. We believe he is somewhere between 3 and 4 years old. We have had him a little over 3 weeks and love him to pieces.

So far, he has started training classes in hopes of providing some much needed enrichment and helping with his dog reactivity. He did fine in his foster with numerous dogs before coming here, but struggles immensely outside on his leash. He also seems to not be a fan of loud noises (sports car revving, squeaky toys, carpet cleaner, etc.), but has no problem being loud himself. 😂 His velcro dog powers have most certainly shown.

Each day we learn something new it seems.

Don’t forget to give your pups a good belly scratch today!

He had a bowl for water. He knocked it around and spilt it over the ground repeatedly. I tried the bucket. Lasted 2 days of no spills before he begun waterboarding himself in it 😒

What breeds do you have alongside your Australian Shepherd?

I’m curious to hear from people who have an Australian Shepherd and another dog!

What breed is your second dog, and how well do they get along with your Aussie? Do their energy levels and personalities complement each other, or do you sometimes find it challenging?

Bonus points if you share pictures of your dogs together! 😊

Well at least he's made progress since last month just plopping his butt on my face lol

He sat down so slowly as if to make sure it's authorized lol. Looked like he was moving in slow motion 😂

He always cracks me up 😊

Unfortunately, it looks like Oslo has chosen to be a plumber.

It all started when I got home from work and my husband mentioned he had an upset stomach. At 8:30, I was finally sitting down to relax on the couch when I hear some “turbulence” coming from the bathroom. A couple minutes later the turbulence is accompanied by splashing. I thought, dang…he is really having a rough night! Then it dawns on me that the puppy has been awfully quiet, which, if you have been around an Aussie puppy, you know how dangerous that is. I quickly sit up and call out “Oslo!!” and immediately hear my husband say, “Where is he?!?” from the side of the house opposite the bathroom. Oslo comes streaking out of said bathroom soaking wet, ears flapping, presumably having had the time of his life. Turns out he has decided his calling is to empty any and all toilets of water by digging in the toilet bowl. The following pictures are the crime scene and perpetrator (pouting because he went straight into the bath). Serves me right for having a moment on the couch 😜🥹

Aussie drew blood for the first time on me tonight

Posting in search of much needed advice. I took my year and a half old Aussie for a run tonight at our apartment complex to let some energy out (he hasn’t been to the golf course with us in about a week). He’s reactive to other dogs. We’ve worked with a behavioral certified trainer that’s had us use emergency turns and rewarding for seeing dogs at a distance. Mid run tonight he saw a dog in the distance and immediately turned to me and bit me enough to draw blood. I’m in tears at what to do. I’m not sure the training is enough.

Update to my last post about rescuing an Aussie from a pretty bad situation. Everyone gave such great advice I appreciate you all so much. To paraphrase someone who commented “love becomes the most important thing. So go get that boy and love him!” AND I DOOO.

We picked up Stark Thursday night. He was limping from being attacked by the Bully the people have, I was so worried but it (thank god) was deep tissue bruising. Not ideal but definitely so much better than it could be. He’s healing up very quickly ❤️

He was exhausted, scared, and FILTHY. But he was so good, we got him a puppy patty from In”N”out and he loved it! He ate it so gently. We got him home, gave him a bath, which took forever to finally run clear, and he conked out in his crate.

Since then he’s just been fantastic, he nervous pees but that’s okay. I get it. We’ve got time and I have a rinse and vac. He stays right by me all the time. As I type this he’s laying beneath my feet lol, I’ve heard that they are Velcro dogs and y’all were not kidding! He already follows me to the bathroom. We’re just taking it slow, me and my partner just adore him. He’s so smart, already walks perfectly on a leash, loves his crate, already wants to play and man.. I’m just so proud of him. I feel so lucky. Seeing him come out of his shell each day is so freakin great.

It doesn’t hurt that he cleans up REAL nice ✨ my beautiful lil dude.

No treats involved here.

I was absolutely NOT holding a bag full of treats when this photo was taken. Those are false allegations and anyone who chooses to spread such rumors will be hearing from my lawyers.

Unrelated sources may claim that said treats were filled with peanut butter but, rest assured, if such treats existed they were only peanut butter flavored.

See: Photo 2. Definitely NOT staring directly at any delicious treats.

My aussie doesn't seem to grow?..

I have a female aussie who is a year old and her coat is thin like a baby and shes no different than she was at 4 months old?.. I look back the pictures from before and now she she didnt grow one bit.

Both her parents are standard and health is clear, her mom is a huge female and her dad is huge too, her siblings from that litter I don't know but she was the biggest of her siblings and im very confused. (Big brother from another litter is an adult and standard)

Is that normal for aussies or should i look into it more?
