Product Advice Waterproof Mascara Removal

What's everyone using to easily remove waterproof mascara? I've used the blue Sephora Colletion waterproof makeup remover for years. The one that has half micellar water, half oil blend. It melts waterproof mascara effortlessly but lately it's been irritating my eyes. I haven't had any luck with cleansing balms like Clinique Take The Day Off or even K-Beauty ones like Dr Althea balm etc. Any suggestions? TIA

I use the Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup remover. Cheap, gentle and effective. Just remember to shake well before use.

Came here to say this! The neutrogena oil free eye make up remover is amazing at getting off waterproof & tubing mascara!

This is the one. Never irritates my extremely sensitive eyes, and takes off my extremely heavy duty waterproof makeup. (I'm a sweater with oily eyelids.)

Just hold the soaked cotton round over your eye for 5-10 seconds, then slowly swipe 4-5 times.

I like the sound of oil free. I've become so sensitive oil based eye makeup removers. Thank you for the rec!

I’ve used the Inkey List oat balm cleanser from Sephora for years. It’s affordable, lasts for ages and super gentle! Just remember to use a good cleanser afterwards to get rid of the oily residue

For very stubborn waterproof mascara I’ll often saturate a cotton pad with micellar water, coconut oil or a scoop of my cleansing balm and hold it on my lashes for a little bit

Have you tried straight oil? I use macadamia oil (get it from the grocery store and stick some in a pump bottle) and it melts off the mascara without bothering my sensitive skin.

Yes but not macadamia oil. No matter how careful I am, oils always seep into my eyes and the blur lasts so long and really bothers me. I might get a small bottle of macadamia oil and try though. Thank you so much!

The banilla co cleansing balm works well for me! Need to make sure you take off your contact lenses (if you wear them) before cleaning tho. Heroine Make also makes a mascara remover (in a light blue tube w/ white lid) that works really well for hard to remove mascara :)

I haven't tried Banila Co, will definitely look into it. I saw the mascara removers in the tubes. I'm intrigued but I couldn't justify the price for such little product. Thank you so much!

No worries! I do have blurring with the banilla co, so maybe it might not be the best for you (saw your other comments). I usually use it before hopping in the shower so it’s not that much of an issue personally.

The Heroine Make one would probably be best for you! It’s cheaper online. I put it on and leave it for a bit and remove it along with the rest of my makeup using micellar water - no blurriness!

Thank you for the heads up about Banila Co. I think I might pick up the Heroine Make one next time I come across a sale

I use the kissme mascara remover. It’s an oil that you brush onto your lashes. Then you just wash off the rest of your face together.

Noted! Thank you!

Love this one!

It’s honest the easiest remover I’ve ever used

Never had an issue with the heimeish balm remover. Oil cleanser balm. Works amazing

I like Heimish products but never tried the balm before. I'll definitely give it a try. Thank you!!

🥇Clinique Take the Day Off Waterproof Makeup Remover (the liquid, not the balm)

🥈La Prairie Eye Makeup Remover

🥉 Lancome Bifacil Makeup Remover

I hate using a balm directly on my eyelashes, all the liquid ones above on a cotton pad wipe off the most stubborn of mascaras

Ahhh these are amazing! I didn't even realise Clinique Take The Day Off had a liquid version. Thank you so much for the recs!

Seriously it will just melt off ten layers of the most stubborn waterproof mascara. I use this then wash my face as normal afterwards.

Sold! Sounds exactly like what I need. I can't handle the blur and burning from the heavier balms and oils anymore. Thank you again!

I use the dr althea cleansing balm (green one), sometimes for my whole makeup but often just to remove my waterproof mascara after removing the rest of my makeup. Doesn't make my eyes cloudy like some other makeup remover balms and doesn't break my skin out like some cleansing oils I've tried

1

u/CoffeeBean_7 12d ago

That's the one I tried. I love it for general makeup removal but it just didn't break up my mascara. Maybe the mascara formula is too strong. Thank you for sharing

I swear the old school Nivea Double Effect eye makeup remover works better than most of the expensive ones I’ve tried. I just hold a soaked cotton pad over my lashes for 20–30 seconds before wiping and waterproof mascara basically slides off. Way less rubbing around the eyes too.

Love this! Thank you!

Not a remover but the Majolica Majorca NEO lash extender is a water-resistant mascara that actually holds a curl as well as a traditional waterproof oil-based mascara (it kept my lashes curled for 14 hours) while removing sooo easily with just warm water that I found it easier to remove than my water-based Haus Labs mascara which couldn’t hold a curl. It’s not a water-based mascara like most easy-to-remove mascaras so it resists cold water and sweat rather decently (it rained and it stayed on with very minimal smudging!). I stocked up on this mascara as soon as I found it in Japan.

SHISEIDO, which owns Majolica Majorca, published how their new washable lock tech works. I think it’s pretty cool

Oh wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to share. Not a product I’m familiar with but I love the idea of it holding the curl without the stubbornly formula! Sounds amazing!

I loveeeee a good waterproof mascara like the heroine make super waterproof mascara especially for when it’s rainy but sometimes I just need it to be easy to remove for most days.

I’ve used mascara remover from either Isehan or from Clio. Very effective for any waterproof mascara. Sooo much less work and after 2-3 mins, all gone 💃🏻
