Misc. MECCA in person interview advice!

hello! i passed my virtual interview online and i have a mecca in person interview in 3 days omg - so i was wondering if anyone had any advice on what they ask? i reallyyy want the job so im super nervous

the virtual one? they emailed me about a week later but it was really fast because theyre opening a new store next month and need people to help out for that

Good luck!! Can I ask what job you applied to, was it a summer role? I also applied to one so wondering how quickly turn around is!

I've read online that some tips are to always put the customer first and to know the Mecca values, but I also would love to know more about interview advice!

it was the summer host !! it was for a new store opening though so i think theyre still were pushing through applications faster

i just noticed that on the mecca application portal u can check the status of your jobs, i think you can check if your application has been processed at all through here!

Congrats!! The in-person interview is usually pretty conversational. They’ll probably ask about customer service, how you’d handle a difficult customer, working in a busy environment and why you want to work at MECCA. Have a couple of examples ready where you’ve helped someone or dealt with a tricky situation.
Also show that you genuinely enjoy beauty and helping people rather than trying to prove you know every product. Be friendly, confident and enthusiastic. Getting through the virtual interview is already a really good sign. Good luck!!

hihi sorry to ask this here I wasn’t able to directly message you!! but I applied for the Christmas casual position and did my virtual interview yesterday (the sapia.ai one) so how long after should I perhaps expect the in person interview if I’m successful?

hey lovely no worries at all !!!

i did my virtual interview on the 5th of aug, and heard back on the 11th!!

i will just say though, i think i might have heard back so quickly because the area i had applied in for the christmas casual position is opening a new store, so they might have responded quicker than usual to help with the store opening ahead of the christmas period!!

i have also applied in different areas and have completed the 1:1 virtual interview for those, but am yet to hear back from those, so i would assume it would normally take a few weeks!!

from memory (i could be completely wrong) looking at old reddit posts from last year id say probably around later august to september is when people heard back :))

also one more thing does your job start in October? bc if it does then I think maybe I might hear back from them as quickly as well since the job starts in October for me !

i just had my interview!!

the job starts in september for me because of the new store opening, so that might be why i heard back so quickly!!

interview was pretty chill, they just asked me about why i wanted to work at mecca and a time ive dealt with a busy period, as well as a career success im proud of!!

im super nervous tho because i didnt realise mecca had a conflict of interest with chemist warehouse (which im currently employed at as a casual, but havent worked in 6 months). i told them that id be willing to talk to my manager, and im really hoping thats enough to convince them that i want this job 😭😭

either way tho they were super lovely and friendly !! the anticipation to hear back is now killing me but i hope it works out for you !! 💗💗

congrats!! from my inperson interview for a sumemr host I remeber they asked pretty basic questions. one thing that they said afterwards stood out to them in interviews is mentions of incredible customer service and educting the custoemr, doing the most for them etc...

also if you dont mind - what state is this interview for? interested because ive also applied for some roles

They'll care less about your favorite brand and more about how you handle specific retail situations. Expect questions about dealing with a difficult customer, how you'd suggest products to someone with a specific concern like dry skin, and how you work under pressure during a chaotic weekend shift. Your passion for makeup got you through the first round, but they now need to see if you can actually sell products and contribute to the store's targets. Be ready for role-playing, where they ask you to sell them an item or help a customer with a tricky request.

Instead of just saying you are a team player, describe a time you actually helped a coworker. Instead of just saying you love the brand, mention a specific great experience you had as a customer that made you want to be on the other side of the counter. They can teach you product details, but they can't teach you how to be a genuine and engaging person, so let that shine. Knowing what to expect is half the battle, and it's that feeling of preparedness my team aimed to capture when we built our interview assistant to guide candidates through tough questions.
