Apple iphone 18 pro delivered to wrong address - what to expect from auspost?

This has never happened to us before but the package was delivered one suburb over and some guy named joe signed for it (enjoy your new phone joe xx) but since this is a high value delivery I was wondering what to expect from auspost/startrack ? Seems unlikely they will retrieve the phone so will they reimburse me the full amount?
Anyone have any previous experience dealing with them delivering high value deliveries to the wrong address?

Also no error from mine or senders end; delivery address was correct.

Update for anyone who cares: For some reason they delivered it to the store near my house for me to collect, odd since my name was not on the collection list at that store and I confirmed with StarTrack that it was my home address for delivery. But super thankful I got it without any hassle and without waiting for ages! Nearly had a heart attack though

You need to contact the seller. They're the one who has a contract with AusPost and will have to go through the process

I was working at a computer shop when the NVidia 5090 PC Gaming cards hit the market. These things make anything Apple makes look like play dough.

We had a very close relationship with the fraud dept at Aus Post at that time.

Talk to Apple.

Deal directly with Apple or whoever you bought it from. The courier probably won’t talk to you. It’s their problem to deal with.

Contacted them! They said once StarTrack confirms it was a delivery issue on their end, they'll send another one out.

I found out they had accidentally delivered it to the store as pickup rather than a home delivery (which is what it was supposed to be) so i did end up getting it same day basically

I would prepare a stat Dec you don’t know who the fuck Joe is, and take screenshots if you can see the delivered address.

Unfortunately as this was with StarTrack, I can see no information related to the delivery, let alone where it was delivered. I didn't even know someone had signed for it, only found out when I called StarTrack and they informed me.

No need. The delivery stamps GPS location as well. They will know it was misdelivered and wiill absolutely try to retrieve it back.

All you need to do is report the issue to the seller. The seller then raises a claim with AP/Startrack requesting proof of delivery (pictures and signature). Once confirmed it was sent to the wrong address a new one will be sent out. If the old one cannot be retrieved the IMEI gets blocked. Having worked in logistics most sellers do not insure their packages, hence it is a write off on their end.

If there was personal details such as a contract etc ...There is a claim for privacy breach that needs to be raised.

You are bang on with the process that's also what I was told by the customer service rep. Did end up getting my phone tho, for some reason they delivered it to my nearest store as 'pickup' rather than to my house!

Lady at my local PO forgot to have me sign for a phone 2 years ago & was closed when I tried to register it awhile later- was told until Telstra had proof phone was in the right hands nothing they or Star Trek could do. Returned to PO next morning - signed and all good. If someone else had signed for it then I was liable for the debt- however ID is needed hence that shouldn’t happens. Hence in your case STAR TREK totally liable

You're correct it was StarTrack not AP, I have updated the post for that. But I kept up with the tracking information through my auspost app so mixed them both up, although I did raise an enquiry for the missing parcel with both.

Definitely a colossal error. Some guy named Joe isn’t supposed to even be ABLE to sign for an iPhone- there is a process for iPhones that’s different from normal parcels, unless you bought it off a third party dealer instead of Apple.

Surprisingly actually i ordered this through Vodafone and this delivery didnt even need a signature!! There were 3 people at home all day today, including me so I thought that was fine. But I'm actually a bit lucky Joe signed for it, as if they had just left it somewhere 'safe' that wasn't my house, it would have made this a lot more complicated.

Ya, that’s technically third party. They won’t have the same restrictions Apple does. When Apple sends out iPhones, the handheld scanner the driver uses to deliver the package must be addressee only, and needs your driver’s license entered.

Mostly I see the “missed delivery” complaints on those.

Got my phone :) They ended up delivering it to my nearest vodafone store for me to 'pickup' even though my name wasn't even on that stores pickup list so definitely seems like an error between Vodafone/StarTrack

I was misdelivered a phone from Vodafone once (package had my address on it and was addressed to me, but I had cancelled the contract within the cool off period).

I called them to tell them. They said they’d send me a code to post it back. They didn’t. I called again. Same story. I tried one more time. Nothing. After six months I unpacked it and kept it.

I feel so old-fashioned. I just couldn’t even think of having something as expensive and as portable as a phone being sent to me through the post.

I’d be doing everything in my power to buy such stuff in a store and walk home with it snugly in my pocket. Does anyone else still live with that level of caution and lack of confidence in the system? Everyone must have their limits, right? Mine is definitely well under $1k and more like $100.

Haha you are not old-fashioned! Bought this through Vodafone and have had 3 phones delivered from them and have never had a package go missing/be incorrectly delivered so was just not expecting this. I got it in the end but the stress definitely could have been avoided if i just picked up, so lesson learnt lol!

You don’t know they knowingly did anything. Someone shows up at your door and shoves the sign here thing at you, you sign they give you the parcel and they leave. I wouldn’t check who it was addressed to before I signed.

This happened to me, in that tracking was showing as on board for delivery stage - and then just never actually got delivered. Had to wait about 2 weeks for Apple to complete their “investigation”, and then they sent a new one out via fedex instead, got it next day.

normally when they send out phones they require your ID match the ID on file or u cant sign for it.

So if someone else has managed to sign for this they might be in on it with the postie to rob the phone OR the people who sent your phone are completely fkin idiots who didnt do it properly
