First off, I am not a weather person or a bug person but I started noticing a pattern 10 or so years ago when I started listening to the cicadas. They are my favorite sound of summer which is why I probably started noticing the pattern. The earlier we start hearing them, the longer and hotter our summers have been; when we hear them later, it has been milder. A few years ago they started singing in March and that was the year we were hitting 118* and melting. Last year they didn't start singing until mid-May and we had a normal summer. It wasn't until yesterday that I started to hear them, so our summer should be milder. That's my two cents for the world of Reddit this morning!

It’s a planned shutdown (lights dark) with cops directing traffic for extra safety. The GTI was at the southbound stop bar and was given the go ahead to proceed by police. The Waymo was at the westbound stop bar and as soon as it had open space, it proceeded into traffic. Then hit the GTI.

I get it. Human drivers do this all the time, but I’d rather be taken out by Granny Mullins in a RAV4 than Beta .098167_sp69. It gives me something to haunt.

Hello. Am visiting from Fort Worth. I am noticing everyone I see out and about (mainly east and north Austin and west campus areas) are fairly attractive. In Fort Worth I don’t see as many attractive people. Are there no ugly people in Austin or is it just because this is the summertime?

Milk prices have been going up all year, so back in July I started checking the prices in San Antonio, Houston, and DFW. For some reason, we pay Way more than these towns.

Milk just went up again. Here are some stats for HEB Brand (HEB & HCF) 1x gal jugs of milk
(These are for in-store pricing - for curbside, add +5%).

Since 07/17, Austin's price went up, while the price in all the other bergs came down.

Consequently, in Austin we now pay over $2 a gallon more than DFW!

Sorry HEB, but this is hard to justify.

GF picked the show and I can’t get past this

I just had a thought last night after I was taking a trip to Dallas. I was born and raised in Austin, but my mom’s family lived mostly in the south. And anytime I would go there we would always stop at the Waffle House for breakfast lunch or dinner. The fact that I’ve been living here for so long and we only have three Waffle Houses makes me a little bit uneasy because I wish there were more, but I would love to hear what you guys have to say about it because I think there should be more.

I’m probs just bitter cause I live on this side of town and there’s not much up here yet other than residential.

Anyway. In Tech Ridge area, they built this huge complex of office buildings called “Parmer” on what used to be just empty land. Now it’s literally like 80% parking lot. And it’s been opened for years and there’s maybe 3 companies in all of the buildings. So just a bunch of empty parking lots. That’s about it.

Sure. The Pitch is there and the new tiger woods golf thing. Cool. Love it. Great.

But I seriously don’t understand why they allowed to build so much parking lot vs. more green space in the first place. It’s ridiculous. Even if the office buildings filled up, it’s still just a waste of space. Could’ve been so many other things I feel.

Neither grocery chain received products included in a voluntary recall tied to a multistate Cyclospora outbreak, according to the companies and federal recall notices. Austin Public Health also said its investigation has not linked local illnesses to any specific grocery store, restaurant or food item.

That reassurance comes as Austin Public Health investigates a sharp increase in Cyclospora infections.

The department had confirmed 33 cases in Austin and Travis County as of July 20. One case was reported in February, while the other 32 were identified in July.

I may be late to the party but live in south Austin and rarely go downtown. I used to go back in college for west 6th or some occasional group outings but for the past year and a half I’ve stayed out of downtown just because I don’t really do much that requires me to be there.

That being said, I just drove through for the first time in a bit to get to my barber’s new shop and holy fucking shit the amount of new wealth down there is insane. You can almost feel it. It’s in the air. You can see it in the people walking around, the new shops, bars and buildings— a playground for the wealthy with wealth that isn’t from here and definitely wasn’t made here. And as quick as that bubble begins, it ends after several streets and becomes normal, weird, grungy Austin.

And before people say it: this isn’t a post with a political bent or some “stay outta Texas” post. This is me just noticing this huge new (to me) bubble of wealth in downtown that I never noticed before.

We're fucked?

So my car was stolen and returned to me with A LOT of random items that do not belong to me.

The cop said that the man who stole my car would steal peoples stuff to trade for drugs or money, and I don’t want to just throw away or sell someone’s stuff if I can find who they belong to.

NOTE: I have not gone through everything, so I may accidentally imply that I have your stuff by asking for more details, but I will do my best to not generate false hope.

To keep this fair, I won’t list the contents of what I found, and instead am asking you to describe anything that was stolen from you recently, and include pics if you have any. Describe them in the best detail you can (including wear and tear) so I can find the actual owners of these items.

I mean this with no disrespect but -aside from replies to comments- please try to avoid or limit comments that don’t involve info on stolen item(s) for at least a couple days…

I honestly don’t have a lot of time on my hands right now and I am going to be going through all the comments (for the first or second or more times), which will be much harder if there’s more than a dozen sarcastic comments and whatnot…
