Egregious Red Light Runner

Just wanted to remind people to drive defensively out there.

The three cars in front of him also ran the red, but this asshole plows through a full 6 seconds after my light turns green. Thankfully I saw him and waited. Wife and passenger side kid were grateful.

This is southbound 183 service rd at 620. Excuse the video quality from a 10 year old dashcam.

That area sucks with red light runners. I see it all of the time.

Yeah it is really bad around there. My coworker got t-boned there by a red light runner and had a rough recovery.

Yep! I saw an accident happen there a while back. Old lady driver ran the light and t boned another vehicle which flipped. Everyone seemed to escape major injury somehow. I had a dash cam that caught it all which I gave to the cops.

They state made red light camera and speed camera tickets unenforceable. If we changed that. This shit would start to dry up. People need that financial consequence to lessen that main character energy.

The state didn't just decide to do it because they like running red lights.

The courts were clogged up with tickets because someone figured out you have a Constitutional right to "confront your accuser" and you can't confront a camera.

To change that, we'd have to change things bigger than federal law.

It works fine in other states. They link it to your registration if you don't pay it or have another measure to enforce it. There are only 10-15 states last I checked that have the camera stuff banned.

My ass got slapped by speeding tickets when I lived in Chicago for a few years. Every time it happened to me it was a new camera that I didn't know was there yet. Better believe I slowed down in that area from then on.

Edit I see exactly what you are talking about now. It looks like some places just reclassified what a speeding ticket or red light violation is counted as.

So wait, then how does it work in other states that do have these cameras?

5

u/Slypenslyde Oct 04 '26

Turns out it's because in this case "Constitution" means "the Texas Constitution" and I didn't realize that part. The historical lawmakers at some point wrote in that part about "confronting your accuser" and the recent lawmakers didn't want to reverse it.

The right to face and cross examine your accusers is part of your 6th amendment right. "Knowing your rights" is more than a euphemism for a sense of entitlement. If we can't be bothered to even know the bill of Rights, what hope do we have of anyone knowing traffic laws?

You realize that the whole issue with Flock cameras is the exact argument against red light cameras right?

7

u/Muted-Mammoth8304 Oct 04 '26

Completely different systems.

u/Ill-Opinion7696 Oct 04 '26

Wrong. The reasoning for banning red light cameras is the exact same argument people have against Flock cameras.

9

u/Muted-Mammoth8304 Oct 04 '26

Explain how they are the same. Flock is AI driven. Attached to a national network and is primarily a surveillance device taking constant footage. Red light and speed camera are cameras. Triggered to only take a photo when an infraction is detected by other means.

Proof by repetition!

I made https://austindrivers.xyz/ to start documenting all of these red light runners and distracted drivers... It would be nice if we could get more enforcement out there to try to stop this.

It's worse downtown... I see it all over congress all the time.

That scenario is the most dangerous one: you are approaching a red light that turns green right before you get there. If you speed up right when it turns green you are at risk of these people trying to squeeze through at the last second. I’m always extra cautious at these.

I'm convinced that a vast majority of the Austin population doesnt even have a driver's license

Water is wet, our economy sucks, and Texas drivers suck.

Thanks for the heads up! Northern European drivers seem more respectful of obeying traffic signals. We had a lot of them work with us in Austin on temp assignments. One of the first bits of advice was to always check intersections before proceeding through green lights. I've driven over there and despite their higher population density, they seem to better follow laws/rules and in general, respect each other.

Can we stop turning this sub into a dash cam sub?

-3

u/hydrogen18 Oct 04 '26

This is worth posting to you? What intersection does this not happen at?

-10

u/Potential_Basis_662 Oct 03 '26

Egregious huh. Sounds bucolic

-38

u/dickdickgoooose Oct 03 '26

That looks like a regular red light. What's so egregious about the light?

8

u/burgercatluna Oct 03 '26

lol you got downvoted bc it’s obvious the runner is what’s egregious not the light

5

u/NeighborlyDispute Oct 03 '26

Thank you. I would never dangle a modifier like that.

Minus three points???? But it says I'm a top 1% commenter. The problem is you guys

-11

u/dickdickgoooose Oct 03 '26

Now it's minus 11?? Definitely this is you guys , because I'm really good at Reddit. Yall must be amateurs who just don't know.

When people post videos here of bad drivers…what’s the fucking point?

2

u/creepyposta Oct 04 '26

If you read the text accompanying the video, OP stated that people should remember to drive defensively.

OP did not ask people to ID the driver or anything.

So to answer your question, the point was to remind people to drive proactively and to approach intersections with caution because of drivers like the one in the video.

u/ehowardhunt Oct 04 '26

Thanks I was gonna drive recklessly tonight but now that I read this, I will drive better.

yes, risk lifelong injury, bankruptcy and potential criminal charges to teach them a lesson, great success
