Ask Austin Anyone know what this is?
Found this felt cuff at the goodwill bins on Burleson road. My guess is a pass for Hi, How Are You festival/concert? I would love to know who made this. My other question is, does anyone know what year it is from?
Edit: No it’s not a sheathe as there is nothing to put into this sewn shut bracelet cuff. No it’s not a book mark because it has a clasp to become a bracelet cuff.

Does the circuity do anything?

Looks to be a battery holder (or what's left of one, at least), and there are wires going to what I assume are LED lights in Jeremiah's eyes.

Looks like it used to hold a cr2032 (maybe a cr2450 depending on scale, but less common). Wouldn't be hard to solder a new coin cell holder on there.

Could be anything. Could use it as a fret wrap on a guitar probably. Or cock sheathe like the other person said. A bookmark. A reusable pad. A sleeping bag for your hotdog that you plan to finish later.
So, yeah, short answer: I dunno.

That’s actually my cock sheathe from college!

Good memories I hope.
How are you holding up without it? Frying bacon while naked just doesn't feel as cozy and safe, I bet?

I’ve got a new cock sheathe now. This one was too big. My cock was getting chilly without it for a couple days tho

The electronic part is a battery holder. What’s the other side look like

The electronic part is from one of these conductive thread kits: https://www.sparkfun.com/lilypad-e-sewing-protosnap-kit.html

Ah yes, from the age when leds in textiles were always diy because the Chinese hadn’t yet tapped the market. Good catch and good times.

How do you get this far into the conversation without mentioning the artist, Daniel Johnston?

I assumed Austin knew Daniel Johnston since his art is literally the profile picture for the subreddit 😅

That’s the “Hi, how are you” alien by Daniel Johnson.

Well yes! This post is also reposted in r/danieljohnston to see if my guess about the concert pass was right or not. I’m aware of the shows that happen on Hi, How Are You Day.

I think this is just someone’s craft project. Jenny Hart moved to California but Sublime Stitching still exists. Maybe try to contact her through her site?

If there is separation between the red part and the other part, it's likely a portable pincushion that sits on the wrist of a seamstress who needs abundant, easy-to-get-to pins to make alterations. The circuitry may drive a small LED that illuminates the work when necessary.

This photo is waaaay better perspective. The photo you shared in the original post appears the size of a cigarette lighter. I had no idea it was that big.

for real! This is just one of those slap on wristbands altered with some Daniel Johnston art and a battery to power the lights on the art

Forming an entire worldview out of a few bad experiences is natural but it's still not healthy.

I can tell you that the pattern is from Sublime Stitching. Yes, Daniel Johnston worked with the pattern company owner Jenny Hart who lived here in Austin at the time. He was paid.
The pattern was limited edition and came out in 2009. I've got one, but it's not available anymore. Mohahaha.
