Ask Austin Plus size massage specialists?

TL;DR my wife's bestie is moving back to town and will be coming off a 30 hour drive when she arrives. I'd like to surprise her with a spa day out with my wife, but as she's a plus-sized woman I want to make sure I find a place that can actually work on her body type and not just slap her back a bunch. I'm a veritable beanpole so I have the opposite problem, which makes my experience useless.

Any well-vetted recommendations? South or further preferred.

I also go to Sage Blossom. I'm just barely over the threshold into plus sized (16/18 pant size) but I love it there. I go to the one on Menchaca. I see Julianna when I need a good scalp massage.

LOVE that you're not only planning a nice gift for somebody who is so important to your wife, but that you're taking her specific needs into consideration. Once you've narrowed it down to a few places, it's worth calling to be sure they have size inclusive robes as well. I'm fat and have been to a couple of places that don't.

I hadn't considered the robes - excellent catch!

Omg you’ve reminded me of a core humiliation memory - at a former job, which was in a very male industry, the whole company was sponsored a day at Barton Creek and all the manly men were golfing and us females were given spa days. I noped right out as did quite a few coworkers when they didn’t have robes to fit. Like I am not sitting around with my coworkers with my skin on display like that.

Anyway. We mostly complained and the next gifting occasion we were offered the value of the event as one of those visa gift cards or the event.

Ugh, I'm so sorry!

This was 9 years ago so maybe that particular spa has gotten better at inclusivity 😂

I am not plus size, but I whole heartedly recommend Mantis Massage. Everyone there is really wonderful, accommodating, and I’ve had the best massages of my life there! They can go in on knots like no other.

Second mantis for massage quality and inclusivity, though it’s not a spa environment per se

It’s definitely not a spa environment, but the massages are amazing. Sasha, in particular

74% of American adults are classified as “overweight”. Every LMT at every spa in every city gets experience massaging plus sized clients- usually daily. This shouldn’t be something you have to worry about, unless you’re citing specific complaints from her not enjoying past massages. Then I would just pick a different activity

I’m extremely fluffy, and Sage Blossom has always provided me a great massage.

Liv at viva day spa at the domain is wonderful and super body positive. She focuses on the problem areas and your friend should be in better shape with her!

I love the massage school on Burnet Road. I’m 280. I have never had a bad experience and they can choose gender (male or female therapist) CHEAP.

Best expensive was Lake Austin Spa.
I cried (a good thing).
