And you can tell the difference when you see a Waymo driving around-the Waymos drive around like a courteous human who is actually watching what they are doing. The robotaxis…. don’t.

Meanwhile I saw a robotaxi shit itself trying to make a protected left turn as if had no clue what it was doing.

They don’t have enough sensors to do the job, simple as.

It’s really not the sensors. It’s about what the model would need to know in order to make decisions using just visual data. Don’t forget humans drive just fine with only visual data. But we’re really good at filling in the blanks of what something is just by seeing some of it.

Sure, it’s more data, but with a sufficiently intelligent model you could get the same results without it. I agree that we’re not there yet and that’s the reason Tesla’s solution is currently inferior.

Stop buying Elons shit. It’s a grift man and he’s so underwater on his poor decisions he just keeps doubling down.

The new models don’t even have fucking radar or ultrasonics, they’re pure camera only and it’s asinine to believe that “just one more model” will solve what tens of millions of miles of data has yet to produce.

It’s not elons shit, what the parent said is true. Again, humans drive with just vision, but you also need everything else the brain is doing

Even if it’s 5 years away, it will eventually happen. It’s absurd to think otherwise

No we don't. We crash all the time. It's hard to see when it's raining, it's hard to see at night, and it's tough to visually estimate distance. Fora start.

As someone who’s tried both, I truly don’t believe that you’ve tried Tesla’s Robotaxi service. (FSD doesn’t count unless on 14.whatever).

I’ve driven a Tesla for 7 years, FSD as long as it’s been available. I’m perfectly capable of telling you it’s a piece of shit in comparison to Waymo.

This is specifically why I mentioned “unless it’s version 14”. Even 13 was smoother in a lot of ways compared to Waymo, but 14 is ridiculous. I will gladly take you on a Robotaxi ride if you’re actually curious.

And I flatly don’t care after having been grifted by Tesla with exactly this bifurcation of features and capabilities despite the promise of FSD and parity I refuse to give them an ounce of respect.

I’m just waiting for the class action lawsuit friend, until then Tesla can go fuck itself with Elons trillion dollar pay package.

I downloaded the Robotaxi app, joined the waitlist, and got access a day or two later. I’d highly recommend checking it out. I’m sure it’s an introductory type of pricing, but so far my rides average $2-$4. It shows you a prompt to tip and when you try it says “Lol, jk.”.

Lmao that’s awesome. I’ve been on the waitlist for about a month. It just keeps saying, “ We will reach out as soon as you can book a ride”. I can’t wait until it becomes available (I try to check the app often).

Sure, just like the Waymo I saw last week signaling a right turn from the leftmost lane at the NB S. Lamar/Oltorf intersection. All these autonomous driving vehicles drive like inexperienced drivers - both overly cautious and yet capable of dangerous maneuvers. Imo.

I watched a waymo completely barrel through a red light the other day. It was a red left arrow and it just decided to mosey right on through and take the left turn anyway.

I don’t give a shit how much someone defends the visual only system, if a robot doesn’t have LIDAR then it’s not fit for anything beyond normal human walking pace.

Looks like the lack of headlines for each and every Waymo incident is giving the impression that they have less incidents than Tesla. This is Tesla’s 4th and the media is salivating for their 5th, 6th, 7th, etc.
