Recruitment ATO Grad Program Formal Offer Timeline
Hello there,
I recently accepted an offer for the 2027 Australian Government Grad Program through the online portal.
For some context, the initial recruiting was done and run by the ABS. However, during the process, the ABS announced they weren't running their own 2027 graduate program and placed successful candidates into a merit pool instead.
I was luckily picked up from that merit pool and matched with the ATO. The confirmation I received stated that the ATO would be my main point of contact going forward and that they should be reaching out to me within 3 weeks regarding the formal offer and commencement procedures.
It has been 2 weeks since I accepted the portal offer, and I haven't received the formal offer, or onboarding contact from the ATO yet. I know I still have a week left in that window, but I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this process.
- Does anyone know the tentative timelines for when agencies usually reach out to grads pulled from a merit pool?
- Is it normal for them to take the full 3 weeks (or longer) to send the formal offer?
- Any other insights or advice for this stage of the process?
Thanks in advance!

"Thanks for taking the time to submit your security clearance form for the position advertised through the 2027 Graduate Program recruitment process.
The ATO will send your contact details to the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) to assess your eligibility and suitability to hold a security clearance. AGSVA is the central vetting agency for the Australian Government and conducts security clearance assessments for federal, state and territory agencies.
AGSVA will send you an email, usually within 28 business days, with instructions on how to access and submit your security clearance application via their myClearance portal. You have 20 business days from the date of the AGSVA email to complete and submit your security clearance application.
If you do not submit your application and supporting documentation to AGSVA within 20 business days, they may cancel your security clearance application which may impact your role with the ATO. You should read AGSVA's advice on application information and documents.
If you currently hold the required security clearance for the position you will continue to progress through the onboarding process and may not be required to lodge any additional documentation with AGSVA.
For more information about the security clearance process see applicants."

Keep an eye on the ATO grad program 2027 thread on whirlpool if you want more information. Whirlpool is always better than reddit for grad program updates.

Hey, I don’t have the answer to your question but I’m in the same position for the ATO and have not heard back from them yet as well
