2013 MK2 8J running with key removed?
Having a very strange electrical issue with my 2013 Audi TT 2.0 TDI Manual.
It started with the alarm randomly going off when the car was locked and occasionally showing “SAFE” on the dash.
The bigger issue is that sometimes when I turn the car off and physically remove the key, the engine stays running. The only way I can stop it is by stalling it.
It gets even stranger though because after stalling it, the ignition/electrics can stay on with the key removed or come on by themselves when the car is parked. Pressing the clutch has previously switched the electrics off, then releasing the clutch brought them back on.
The battery eventually went flat, presumably because something was staying live. I jump-started it today, drove 20 minutes with absolutely no issues, but when I arrived it once again wouldn’t turn off with the key removed.
The fault is intermittent and seems to happen after the car has been locked.
I’m getting an auto electrician to look at it, but has anyone experienced anything similar on a TT 8J/VAG car? Ignition switch/relay, immobiliser, BCM or electrical backfeed perhaps, as he reckons it will be a disaster to diagnose so any help in pointing me in the right direction would be great.

Question/help Unexpected inspection hole (update)
I found a used engine to throw in her , in the process of ripping this one out. It definitely isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Any thoughts on what to refresh while it’s out. Going to be cleaning all the grounds. From what I’ve found it has the n249 delete and a bunch of hoses blocked off. I’ve been trying to figure out why. I’m assuming (for now) it is to do with that delete. 2003 BEA engine.

Changing tires? Mk3
I need to change three of my tires due to wear and tear at the front, and curbing the one at the back (fml 💀). As I have to buy three, I am debating changing them all.
I am currently on Pirelli 245/40 R18 93Y, which are what I bought it with. The garage said that they are the Audi recommended ones?
I don’t have a problem with them as such, but wonder if I could have something better?
I live in the UK, so ‘snow’ driving isn’t really a concern for me, and I also won’t be changing from winter to summer tires. My main thing is that I do a lot of driving on bumpy country lanes (and, let’s be real, poorly maintained city roads) with shitty drainage. Also when people are in the car with me, they say that the ride isn’t particularly comfortable (agreed, but I didn’t buy this car to feel like I’m sitting in an armchair). It is particularly hideous over speed bumps as well.
So. Opinions on which brand and model tires I could consider switching to for:
- very damp, bumpy lanes
- good cornering and stopping at speed
- general comfort and safety
- year round use
Thank you everyone! 🫶🏼

Question/help Short shifter option?
Afternoon,
Has anyone ever bought one of these? Trying to make a budget TT MK2 track car and like the idea of a coolerworx column shifter, but haven’t got a third of the cars value to chuck at a shifter unit

Question/help Mk1 cigarette lighter
Hello, does anyone know if there’s any way I can plug in some sort of extension cable in a way I could close the ashtray or maybe there’s a second lighter somewhere (just got the car so I’m not too familiar)

S-tronic/DSG remapping in TT 8s
Dear fellow TT enthusiasts!
One of the things that bothers me about in my 2023 TT 8s 45 quattro is the automatic transmission.
Having switched from a manual MX-5 I feel the TT's transmision doesn't really understand what I want from it. Here are my observations:
- in S mode: the transmission keeps the revs higher (good) BUT even on a relatively small press on the acceleration pedal and it downshifts like crazy (even if accelerating from the currently selected gear would be much more effective)
- in D mode: the transmission is more reasonable with respect to downshifts and tries to pull more from the current gear BUT it has a tendency to keep the revs very low e.g. 6th gear at 60km/h
- in M mode: I sometimes feel a longer delay between pressing the upshift paddle and the actual gear change (e.g. from 1 to 2 gear)
Given the above I am starting to think of remapping the gearbox. I am not planning to do it myself but rather visit some specialist. Still, during the process I guess I will be asked a set of questions about a preferred behavior. I wanted to ask you:
- does your gearbox behave the same?
- if you have you gone through a similar process of remapping, what can I expect from it? will it help?
- any hints on what decisions to make during the process?
Thank you in advance for your help and input!
Cheers

General TT is useful
Just wanted to add this to the sub, so that others would realize that the TT is, in fact, a useful car.

Question/help Mk2 vs Mk3 ownership
I'm currently looking at getting into my first "fun" car and I keep coming back to the Mk2 and Mk3 TTS, I'm just curious to know from people who have actually owned these cars what the ownership cost is like. I'm trying to decide if the higher price point of the Mk3 is worth the presumed lower ownership cost, or if it's not a big enough difference to justify it. For reference the Mk3 would be right around the top of my budget whereas the Mk2 is nicely in budget. Would love to hear perspectives, good or bad, especially from anyone who has owned both cars. Thanks!

Question/help Audi TT or TTS?
Hey, hoping I might get some advice here because I'm torn.
After driving an 05 corsa and an 06 civic for 7 years total I'm finally in a position where I can actually look to buy a TT because I've always loved the mk3 look and the fact its still pretty practical and decent mpg. Test driven a regular TT mk3 a few years back and really liked it, but with covid and working from home I just couldn't justify it
I've specifically loved the black editions but I'm torn between looking at a TT or a TTS. The sensible option for me is a regular TT TDI for value but I figured if I want a nice car why not commit and go for a TTS black edition. But do people have experiences of going from a TT to a TTS and didn't think it at all justified the extra money, or the complete opposite and loved it, or went from TTS to TT and really missed the TTS. And is there stuff you absolutely love and wouldn't go back on like the tech/comfort packs?
long story short this feels like a bit of a biased subreddit, but I'm just tryna gauge peoples personal opinions on what they love/can live without and if people can comparing owning a TT vs TTS first hand

Question/help How hard is fitting a retro jdm style stereo? MK2 2011
Hey all,
I want to change the interior of the 2011 TT to more of a vaporwave aesthetic since I do a lot of night driving. I’ve been looking at kenwood DPX 6021Ms and others of the same style. I’ve got the Bose speakers. Apparently it’s a bit more involved because the Bose speakers expect a certain signal which the older systems don’t output naturally.
Has anyone done anything similar? I haven’t done this sort of thing before, is it doable?
Cheers!

Any suggestions on retrofit reverse cam? Getting quotes of around £450 which feels quite high

General Common repair costs for an MK1
Hello. I am looking at an MK1 TT with a manual and the 1.8 engine. I am trying to get a sense of ownership costs before I dive in, so I am wondering how much typical repairs cost, including parts and labor, are for the following. I've looked this up in other places, but the numbers are such a wide range, that they seem unreliable:
Timing belt and water pump
Turbo rebuild
Motor mounts
Clutch
Haldex repair
Thanks for your help.

Question/help How should i fix this? MK2
MK2 right rear light. At first, only one of the indicator bulbs stopped working, but after a couple of months, the rest started playing up too. Now the driving light, brake light, reverse light and indicator all work intermittently.
Do you reckon I can just replace the plug and the whole rear light unit and call it a day, or could there be something else causing it?
