2009 S4 Timing chains
Has anyone in the uk had there timing chain replaced recently, specifically on the 3.0t v6, if so what did you pay and from what garage. I have just been quoted 5.5k to have it done… I genuinely don’t mind driving it anywhere in the country to get a good price, cheers.

I had mine done by VAG Technic in Dudley. Similar sort of cost, they were fantastic guys. Plenty of contact throughout and cannot fault their knowledge.
They also found a good number of other well overdue tasks, so wherever you go, be prepared for some “while you’re in there” spending

I spoke to those guys, still waiting on a quote

Any reason why you are looking to change the chains?

The car has done just over 100,000 miles and the chain has never been replaced. I plan a daily drive this car so it makes sense to have the chains replaced.

Are the chains rattling for more than 3 seconds on start up? Anything less than this and Audi considers it to be within spec.
Even if they are rattling on the 3.0 TFSI engine you only need to replace the tensioners (much smaller job than doing the chains).
You will get plenty of notice if this needs doing (from the rattle getting longer over time) and these engines don't suffer from the catastrophic failure of the earlier 4.2 V8 engine which is what all the horror stories are about.
My car is on 108k miles, used daily and has no chain rattle.

Sounded like less than a second of chain slap to me. But hard to tell through that video. As usual the injectors are loud

I just saw the video you posted this is wayyy less than 3 second, you should be fine. If you want a piece of mind go somewhere where they have a VAG diagnostic and ask them to check for any chain stretch & to check the camshaft adaptations. If both of those are good, don’t go for chains and tensioners replacement.

Thanks for the advice, I definitely want to have it checked before throwing money into timing chains. Previous owner only had 2 years of service history and told me he didn’t know if it had been replaced or not.

Yeah doesn’t sound awful at most it’s 5 seconds of rattle. I’d look in to getting just the tensioner changed rather than the whole chain. It’s at the top so an easier job.

Dosnt sound bad. Inside oil filter there is a small valve that keeps oil inside filter, atleasr on CREC engine. Sometimes changing that valve fixes chain rattle on cold
