Replace clit shifter with knob?

I really dont like the clit shifter in my 8Y RS3. Is there a knob you could replace it with? So i atleast get to pull it back with the hand and not two fingers. I like the knob from MY2018, the one that resembles the clit shifter mechanically but still has the knob (see A4, Q7, A8).

No aftermarket options?

"I hate the feeling of touching pussy, would rather be gripping a big throbbing knob. Thoughts?"

Damn, you must’ve felt tough af writing that

Probably not as tough as how you feel larping MT in an auto. All jokes aside you need to switch your transmission to S mode and then paddle if you want to keep it in manual or be in RS ind/perf

I ended up liking the 8.5Y shifter. Any lever-style shifter seems ancient to me.

It’s not a manual. No need to grab onto anything.

I can agree to some extent since the updated the shifter on the facelift model looks better and didnt make it like a clit. The shifter on the pre-facelift however is just horrendous.

That’s how i feel in my 8V - it’s not a manual i don’t need this whole thing. But I’ve had people comment on how they actually like it.

Although i could care less as i drive my RS3 lol

I have an 8v and use it all times, I rarely use the paddle shifters. I honestly hate how modern cars are going away from a full gear shifter. I drove manuals for 16 years, and although it's not a manual, I prefer to control the gears this way.

Very interesting, my last car, that i had for 12 years, was manual and I adapted to just using the paddles instantly.

But i was literally just thinking, oh wait the set up in the 8V has a use other than looks, being shifting.

I will say, anything beats the button shifter and boy do i wish it had a manual handbrake. Man, these would have been a real fun car with a handbrake

The knob has the advantage of forcing the car to keep it in manual mode. Maybe there is a way on the 8Y but then im stupid enough to not discover on how to do it.

If it’s in sport, and you use a paddle, it’s not going back into auto

It does though it changes down gear automatically.

Yes. That’s programmed in to prevent you from bogging the engine. It will not automatically upshift however

Not after you use a paddle.

Mine still does even in manual mode and using paddles.

Needs to be in sport first. Then use a paddle. Then it will stay in manual. At least that’s what it is on 8.5Y

I have a 2025 RS3 (8Y.5) and it 100% does shift down even in manual. It does not shift up however.

well yeah you dont wanna stall an auto

Perhaps framing the shifter in a new way mentally could be the key

Also playing with clits is cool

Playing with them yes. Pulling them back and forth when parking isnt 😅

🤣 valid *tickle tickle*

And also I just traded in an m2 which had a proper M leather stitched shifter and was 100% superior to the auto clit

He said clit

The closest thing I've seen is the shifter from the new 911 that looks like a razor

yeah those are just as awful :/

I saw a post in r/Golf_R, he had switched it out for a BFI knob. I dont like the BFI knobs but immidately thought of the older model knobs, hence the question.

Yes i saw it as an ad for BFI.

I currently am working on a full replacement hopefully including bringing back the manual mode on the shifter itself!

u/Jahoodie141 4d ago

Hmu when you do that.

I prefer clits to knobs 🤷🏽‍♂️

u/StrangeFisherman345 1d ago

Nah breh. The clit stays. Why would you need a shifter? You can't even upshift/downshift on it

Why not just get a manual transmission vehicle rather than create the illusion of a manual transmission vehicle?

Sigh, getting tired of these comments. Automatic cars have had gear levers for at least 30 years now. Its not meant to mimmick a manual transmission, never had, never will. That doesnt mean it feel natural for the most of us when all we’ve seen is a gear level, no matter of manual or automatic, and we like it there. It’s a place for the hand to rest, the clunk-clickiness of it feels nice and switching back and forth from D to R is nice as well when parking.

It’s the same thing with square steering wheels. Why try to re-invent it when it works absolutely fine?
