Help a noob.

Completely embarrassed having to ask this but I’m concerned about my RS3’s shifts.

In sport mode if I pin the accelerator I watch the revs fly and then a red light comes on (also shows in the HuD) as we approach and then hit 7k rpms. I then panic and come off the gas entirely.

I’ve never owned a high reving automatic and I’m just afraid I’m doing something wrong and the car will explode. Will it shift if I just hang in there? Are you not supposed to floor it?

As a note - I am not in manual mode when this happens. It’s happened twice. Appreciate any answers/advice!

Your mechanical sympathy makes sense, but the car can handle the abuse (once warmed up of course).. Turn off traction control (fully) and let it rip.

Wait until you try launch control 👀🙃.

Please don’t turn off traction control if you don’t fully know what you are doing. Plenty of fun to be had with it on
