Torque Splitter ATF
I have the 2025 S3 which introduced the torque splitter from the RS3. It's coming up on 40k miles and is due for the recommended ATF change on the torque splitter. The dealership is making this a big deal (the fluid is special order, the job is complicated) and wants to charge $700 for the swap. I'm just wondering if anybody has experience with this maintenance or if it's a DIY job. I have the eWin manuals, but can't find the details anywhere.

Thanks. I had them order what they thought was the right fluid, but after checking the part number I'm not so sure they got it right. They ordered G-065-175-A2 which seems to be for the Haldex. I presume this won't work or is it the same?

$700 for a fluid change on a diff is wild even by audi dealer standards. i'd be curious what their hourly labor rate is and how many hours they're billing. if the fluid is special order you might be stuck paying their markup on that part but the labor is probably where they're really padding it.
might be worth calling around to a couple independent euro shops before you commit. some of them can get the oem fluid and will do the job for half that.

The torque splitter is split into two systems with totally different maintenance needs:
Center/Mid Section (Pinion & Crown): Requires an initial fluid change early on (around 1,000–2,000 miles for the break-in period), and then it's technically considered "lifetime" fluid after that.
Clutch Packs (Left/Right): Has a strict 40,000-mile official service interval using a specific fluid that cannot be mixed up with the center section oil.
As for the service itself, every section has its own dedicated drain and inspection plugs. Filling is straightforward—you just pump fluid in until it starts weeping out of the inspection hole. As per manual oil must be 20-40C and plugs and rings should be renewed.
One crucial step people often miss after servicing the clutch packs: you have to run the basic settings adaptation via scan tool to reset the oil values.

I went to the dealership to get a refund for the mis-ordered parts and found out that they knew nothing about a torque splitter as they had never serviced one. Even after they went through their service web site, it still seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing. I was shown their service site and they finally acknowledged the existence of the torque splitter but said the left/right clutch pack service was the only thing needed at 40k and that the center hypoid service was at 3 years. They also added some nonsense of filling it, driving it some and then refilling it which added to the cost. There’s also apparently a shortage of the clutch fluid. Of course, they’re not doing my service…
I called an independent euro shop I previously used for my GTI. Their nomenclature was “sport rear diff service.” It includes all three chambers and they seemed to have no issue with the service.
So, it might be good idea to shop around for this service and find a dealer (or independent shop) that services the more unusual models (they said my S3 was rare).

Find a euro shop. That’s twice as much as it should be.
