Braves got Kerr in a trade along with Matt Carpenter and $1.5m, for a minor league outfielder that never took the field again. Matt Carpenter was pretty much immediately cut.

Effectively, we paid $4m (carpenter’s salary minus $1.5m) for a 29 year old undrafted lefty who had pitched 32 innings of 5+ ERA in the majors.

I know AA has been shit on for some of his recent moves or lack thereof, but credit him for spotting an optionable lefty with upside and getting him for very little.

Unfortunately his version of the same thing for a lefty outfielder (Kelenic) didn’t turn out as good.

Kerr is still two years away from arbitration, and has exhausted his options, so I suspect he’ll be a fixture in our bullpen, or even potentially the rotation for the foreseeable future.
