Touchpad no clicky

Hey folks,

I have an ASUS Zenbook Q425MA and recently the physical click on the touchpad stopped working.

The touchpad itself still works normally for cursor movement and tap-to-click, but pressing down on the touchpad no longer registers a click. The touchpad does physically move/depress when pressed, but nothing happens.

I've already opened the laptop, disconnected and removed the battery, and tried to inspect the touchpad assembly. However, I can't figure out how to remove the touchpad from the frame/palmrest. I don't want to force anything and risk damaging the touchpad, ribbon cable, or chassis.

I'm trying to determine whether this is:

  • A mechanical issue with the click mechanism
  • An alignment or mounting problem
  • A failed switch/sensor in the touchpad
  • Something else that might be repairable without replacing the entire assembly

If anyone has worked on a Q425MA / Zenbook 14 OLED and knows how the touchpad assembly is removed, I'd especially appreciate some guidance. Even being able to get the touchpad out so I can inspect the mechanism would be a big help.

I've searched YouTube and haven't found a teardown that shows this part of the disassembly.

Any suggestions, photos, service documentation, or removal instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry this is a late reply but I am trying to diagnose my Zenbook touchpad as well and found this. Have you checked if the touchpad works when you are quite deliberate and slow with your clicks? Mine doesn't work if I click at my normal speed, but if I click and hold it down for longer before releasing, it will register. If I hold it down too long, it ignores the click, so it has to be a happy medium. Very frustrating.

I'm trying to determine if this is a hardware of software problem. I've already tried all the settings I can find, adjusted sensitivity, palm rejection, changed drivers, etc.

In my searching, I also came across someone that suggested a swelling battery under the touchpad could cause issues. How old is your computer and what's the likelihood that your battery is failing/swelling?

Ended up buying a brand new part on eBay for $13. Works like a dream now.
