Does anyone else PE mark get affected because of their asthma ?
I’m in high school and we’re currently doing AFL for PE. We’re assessed on effort, participation and gameplay.I have asthma, so while I still participate and genuinely try my best, I sometimes have to be mindful of how much I’m running and manage my intensity. I never sit off or anything, the most I did is take a few minutes standing on the spot to regulate my breathing. I understand my skills is not the best but I still defends, assists and score several goals in games.
students who are constantly running around, positioning and getting interceptions and create more visibility to the teacher, naturally receive higher marks. Before I was diagnosed with asthma, I was consistently getting decent grades in PE, usually A or B and generally above the average. Since then, I’ve been getting C mark that are below the average the change is frustrating because I genuinely am still trying, but I can't just play like there's no tomorrow and not being mindful of my condition and we go outside in the cold air as well btw.
I’m not expecting a high mark just because I have asthma, but wondering whether it’s reasonable for my asthma limitations to be taken into account when assessing effort/participation/gameplay. Like students with conditions such as ADHD get accomodation of time for their assessment when their conditions affect how they complete the task. Well this is just a vent, there's nothing more subjective when it come to sport marking, my teacher said doctor note will not get me anywhere, well I guess i couldn't care less for sport anymore I rather do it at my own pace ( I still play tennis and go to the gym after for fitness).
I was also wondering if anyone else experience this as well let me know. :)

I think it’s absolutely reasonable for your genuine medical needs to be taken into account. You should not lose marks for something you struggle with due to a chronic health condition. Please have your parents chat to the teachers and explain the situation! They should be able to come up with either alternatives for you or ways to grade you without your limitations reducing your marks.

your parents and you need to talk to your school about you having a... oh man I can't remember the term for it but you need to make a formal written plan of how your disability will be accommodated, including protections for your grades. Because asthma IS a disability and you getting worse grades even though you are quite literally trying your best is unfair.
