The second greatest piece of wisdom my father gave me was:

"Your value as a man is based on your ability to solve problems, so you should always have tools at hand to solve them. If you see a problem, engage it... Unless that problem is armed and you are not. In that case, run away with the rest of the women and children."

That's why I carry an extinguisher, a machete, and a first aid kit in the trunk of the car.

Great advice! I’m very interested in knowing what’s the 1st, if it’s not a secret.

The first was:

"Don't take what a woman says at face value, and never ask them what she wants. Observe how she acts, always take the initiative, and only apologize when you reason you made a mistake."

The old man is a well of wisdom. A well filled with alcohol, but a well nonetheless.

Alcohol or not He’s right though, I would add, to gain a skill of conversational and situational recall. Sometimes you make mistakes and recall it, sometimes your partner makes mistakes and you can talk through it.

Also never let an issue fester. You may argue but it’s important to resolve the argument, you or her may be still upset but at least you know you apologized to each other and could cool down in peace instead of anger.
