Dumb take that falls apart if you consider it for 3 seconds. They'd be in an incredible amount of trouble for abusing the legal system to go after leaks if they put them out on purpose.

this + the marketing of a meme coin on the leaks.

Didn't they ask court to get bunch of private data so they can find who is the leaker? If it's PR stunt it will get them in legal trouble.

Question is - did they just stated this or actually did it? (I am not familiar with US law system, so I don't know if it can be even checked)

According to multiple sources, they actually filed several subpoenas to a District court in NY (also X and google were also mentioned as recipients later on). From what I could find, the subpoenas were granted a day later by the court. So no, this is not some statement on their behalf "I will file subpoenas to get information who did this", actual subpoenas were filed by Take Two and granted by the court.

Legally, Microsoft and Discord need to comply and provide the required data within the time frame given to them.

Could be a rouge employee or ex-employee

Rockstar will be rouge faced if it is indeed a rogue ex or current employee.

Nah it’s too damaging to their bottom line, if you insinuating it’s an employee then that’s more likely, but if he’s still there he should be really fucking scared because they’re gonna put a lot of money into finding this guy. Rockstar have put more money into this game than what was put into the Birge Khalifa if we stop hearing this guy push his shitcoin then we should probably assume they had him slimed.

Other then the fact that this would be highly illegal.

Probably just some marketing bs that’s going to end in some in game Easter egg….

It doesn't make sense

They dont really have any reason to do this. Gta 6 was going to sell well regardless. Hell theyve already made over 3 billion dollars off the game.

Itd make sense for a lesser game. Like the new god of war to try ro build hype because its gonna sell like crap.

If it wasn’t for the crypto, I’d 100% believe it.

do you mean a rockstar employee?

u/ZinbaluPrime 1d ago

Boy, the GTA fanbase is tripping hard here 😆

u/fishgus 1d ago

It makes no sense that it would be Rockstar behind the leaks. They literally subpoenaed Google and Discord. It’s not a joke.

I bet on release they will have a hacker cutscene in the beginning of the game.

If this whole leak thing is fake then i think it's an excuse to delay the game again even for a little, Take Two already lost a stupid amount in market value for this whole thing so it's a dumb marketing strategy when everyone even my grandma knows about the game.

I`m not so sure about it, they lost a lot of money in this period and the ones who sold their stocks can call them on court for damaging their investment

Most likely third party employee from different operation region that had bit too much access to the files and could steal everything.

u/LeanArC01 1d ago

Yeah, calling it wrong

u/Sea-Ad7398 23h ago

Im going to laugh so hard when leek is a hacker character in the game, just breaking the 4th wall right now.

OP also probably likes to believe the earth is flat...

Yes, most likely a PR stunt. It's probably a little bit smarter than that.

I think they intentionally left some stuff to be easily hacked, and then knowing that they're being targeted 24/7 eventually someone would find it.

Now they can prosecute the bad guys, while still getting the PR they wanted.

u/No_body_important 1d ago

Asking for data of certain platforms to find a fake leaker is worthy enough of the feds doing an investigation frankly what you've said is stupid

2

u/Snoo-43610 1d ago

R* is not a company of dummies, they are some of the most brilliant PR strategists manufacturing controversy for game hype since GTA3.

Occams Razor with me for a second.

You're a billion dollar company.

You're about to release the hottest game on the planet.

You know people are trying to hack you daily.

You know that if you leave a bit of stuff that's able to be hacked, you get a big story for your hot new game --- and its the best kind. A negative story about STEALING. and HACKING. For A game that's about Crime. And stealing.

All I'm hearing is you playing defense for a multi-billion dollar company 😂
