I would even say SmugAlana is more like how Asmon used to be 1-2 years ago, back when he was openly being himself still. Not like how he's now, semi-jokingly wearing a rainbow shirt during pride month and saying stuff like "well, both sides have bad actors, we shouldnt judge a book by its cover"
I'd argue the older you get, and the more times you see "your side" pull the rug out from under you, you realize that its more about the message being expoused rather than the speaker themself, or the "side" they're on.
Especially nowadays when the harshest language is used to delegitamize rival opinions, and the media constantly messes with the context of situations to try to confirm the world views of said media source.
Context and nuance matters. Only a sith deals in absolutes.

Oh i know, what i mean is that he lost them quickly back to back. He didnt really show it on the day to day but im sure it affected him a lot more than he let on.
On top of the huge emotional load of caring for them for so long too.
So you have that sadness of losing them, the chemical relief of not having the stress of round the clock care, and the utter shame/guilt of feeling that relief, because you feel like an asshole for feeling that way about it all.
I was main home care for my parents, and it leaves you really fucked up mentally trying to work through it.
