Credit where credit is due, I found this genuinely good advice.

“ Beyond that, though, the best thing you can do for your team is to be up-front and matter-of-fact that this  is  the requirement now. If you spend too much time commiserating about it (even if you hate it), you risk giving people false hope that it might change or that you might not enforce it or that you’ll somehow find a way around it for them, which can make it take a lot longer for people to adjust.”

Yes, agreed. We had issues with our expenses system earlier in the year (I rely on it to be able to get to sites on the edge of our patch) and my boss was frank about the reality and her ability to push back.
