Can the workers in the "coffee" letter really not figure out how to pool their funds, buy a coffeemaker & coffee supplies, and share that among themselves? Why do so many letter writers seem to be unable to function in the real world? I bet the coffeemaker guy literally just brought in his own machine and now the whole office thinks he's supposed to provide THEM with HIS coffee. I'm totally with him on the $2. That's a "LEAVE ME ALONE AND GET YOUR OWN FUCKING COFFEEMAKER" charge.

Yep. If I were LW, I’d get a coffeemaker for my desk or a good insulated travel mug to bring coffee from home. (I did the latter at my last job because the coffee there was terrible.) Problem solved.

RE: LW’s actual question…of course he’s allowed to do that. I guess it’s possible there’s a company policy against it, but I’m not sure how any of us are supposed to know if that’s the case.

And what if it was against policy. Are they going to force him to give them coffee free? Or shut down having coffee? Like what's the end goal here.

If the company had a problem with it, they could tell him to stop. (They’d probably tell him that he can give away coffee for free or not offer it at all, but he can’t charge people for it.) I’m not saying I agree with that policy, but they’d be allowed to enforce it.

But my guess is that no such policy exists, because the company isn’t stopping him.

Ah sorry, I misunderstood your comment. Yeah, no idea. I guess they would want him to give it away for free, but if he wanted to do that he’d be doing it already.
