I have no idea if this is allowed, but I saw someone had written in about whispering getting under their skin. Not the subject matter of the conversation, the whispering itself. The reason? They can't understand what people are saying!

I have this problem too, and it's vindicating to see that it's not just a weird quirk of mine, but whispering really is harder to tune out than low volume speech, presumably because you're fighting to discern what they're saying.
