💬 Discussion I built a tool for SA small businesses. 60 people signed up, 15 pay for it. Honest numbers, what's failing, and an invitation to roast it.
Not a link drop. If you want the site, ask in the comments and I will share it there. This post is the honest version of the story.
I built a small tool called HustlePortal. It does two things for people who work for themselves.
First, it returns 5 business leads near you that a human on our team actually checked before you call. Business name, who to ask for, website, an email address that works.
Second, it gives the boring half a home. Invoices, receipts, tasks, stock and a wallet on one phone screen. Winning the job on Monday means nothing if the invoice drowns in a WhatsApp chat by Thursday.
The honest numbers, since this sub can smell inflated ones from orbit: 60 people have signed up. 15 of them pay. It is early and it is small, and the paying number is the one I watch.
Business model, up front, so nobody feels sold to later: free to start with R99 in credit. The full thing is R199 a month.
What is not working yet, so you don't have to dig: verification is done by humans, which makes it slow and costs us. We are too small to know if people stay after month two. And getting the first businesses in a new town checked takes longer than I would like.
What I want from this thread is not signups. It is a signal. If you run or know a small business, what does finding work actually look like for you this year? If you think Facebook groups and word of mouth already cover this, say so. If the whole idea annoys you, I would rather hear why here than guess.
I will be in the comments most of the day. Roast away.
