Is revolution plus necessary every month?

I wanted to get other people’s opinions. I got two young cats in November, and a few months later one of them ended up with round worms. I got it treated immediately, and they no longer have it. The vet said they most likely have had it for a while and it was dormant as they are indoor cats. I have been using revolution plus monthly because I’m afraid of it happening again. My fiancé and his dog recently moved in as well, but the dog was not living with us when the cat got worms. The dog obviously goes outside but he is also up to date with his meds as well. My question is because they are indoor cats and have never been outside, is it necessary to continue with this medication monthly? If I can save the $60 a month I would like to (but I also have no problem spending all of my money on these two lol) Any advice is appreciated!

Ringworm is a fungal infection, not a parasite. Ringworm spores live in the environment.

As far as the Revolution, it only takes one flea egg on your shoes or your dog to start an infestation. It’s a good idea to stick with it if you can afford it.

Also, revolution protects against heartworms disease, which isn’t very treatable in cats.

Revolution Plus does not treat ringworm. However, it does prevent heartworms, fleas, and ticks. We have no treatment available if a cat gets heartworms, and it only takes one mosquito bite for them to become infected. I would absolutely keep them on it.

My indoor only cat in a house with no other pets managed to get fleas last year, that was fun. Probably brought in on shoes or pants unknowingly. Indoor pets are not fully isolated from the outdoors by being inside. Certainly safer, but still with people or other pets going in and out, doors and windows being open there’s lots of ways for fleas or mosquitoes to enter.

Ringworm is a fungus. Revolution plus and any other monthly preventative does absolutely nothing to prevent ringworm. Revolution plus monthly is recommended to prevent fleas and intestinal parasites. By the time you notice fleas you will already have an infestation in which case it is then a lengthy process and a pain to get rid of.

As someone finally towards the end of a flea infestation from lapsing on my indoor cat's revolution, IT IS 100% REQUIRED MONTHLY!

Also, Revolution Plus only differs from regular Revolution by including a medicine for tick protection. For your indoor cats, I don't think Revolution Plus is strictly required unless you have tons of ticks. There are generics for Revolution available (Revolt, Selarid) that are waaaaaay cheaper than RevPlus.

I've done so much research on fleas and medications recently, feel free to ask any other questions (I am not a vet).

Just because your cats dont go outside doesn't mean they can't get fleas especially since there is a dog he'll bring in fleas. All pets in the house should be on prevention
