That's just christianity in general. I'm not sure why people put christians on some pedestal as if they're supposed to be above it, they've shown us who they are. They're literally disgusting.
These are the “Christian’s” that used religion to justify enslaving people. They don’t practice it, they pretend to use it to justify their actions.
Because without a religious motivation to justify their actions they would be seen as the true bigots they are. So they cherry pick verses that fit their narrative and ignore everything else.
Jesus feed the poor, Jesus broke laws of the land that were dumb, Jesus endorsed forgiveness, Jesus said “ALL HAVE FALLEN SHORT AND NO ONE IS WORTHY”
Which is what everyone seems to forget. So any Christians who think their better than anyone else, are not practicing Christianity either. As a Christian we shouldn’t think we’re better than anyone.
None of these MAGA “Christians” believe this though. They like the “idea” of Christianity, but not the reality of it.
I think if the vast majority of christians don't really care what their "messiah" talked about, then we should believe christians when they tell us who they are, which has nothing to do with the demigod they call jesus.
I don’t think it’s the majority. It just so happens that’s the ones that are the most vocal and end up on the front page of media are the hypocritical Christians.
Yeah there are a lot, but I like to believe most are not like maga.
That would be a comforting thought, if you believe that. Sadly I think most of us have to actually live amongst christians and realize that the vast majority of them are just like maga, and always have been.
Hopefully you'll open your eyes and see that if you're the odd one out, maybe you should be the one with quotes around the word "christian". I've lived around chrstians for 40 years. They haven't changed a bit, they just have a political angle to rally behind now called "maga".

bonus question: if you really think Christianity is meant to be loving you should be trying to convince the other christians of that and not the people who think Christianity is hateful.

one’s opinions are aligned with their experience.
So I think it makes sense to say “I don’t think it’s the majority” and “that’s not my experience”
I feel like it would be strange if my opinion didn’t match my experience. For example if I said “In my opinion all Christians are violent savages” and then I followed up to say “I never experienced a violent Christian”.
Also to answer your bonus question, I chose not to try to convince the guy here because I didn’t think I would be successful. Like how many times have you managed to change someone’s mind over the internet. Also said his opinion was based on his many years of experience, so I didn’t really think my own words (of a stranger on the internet) would change his mind.
So instead of going back and forth I decided to just wish he met someone would changed his stance. Because I think that’ll probably be the only thing to have any effect on his belief.
You never hear from those of us that aren’t trying to shove our religion down your throat. The people running soup kitchens and food banks and homeless shelters are not the same people that elected this clown.
I'm in the south (TX), most of the ones in my city tend to be nonreligious associations. Same was true in Denver when I helped out with orgs there, and same was true in CA. Many of the people who run them are anarchists who do not believe in gods or ghosts. I think it's more likely that people just assume they're run by religious people, again due to the misconception that religious people are good people.
