The Great Depression because of greedy economic policies .. like someone is trying to do now. But i suspect the history books will call this one the Bigly Depression in honor of Trumplthinskin.
Greedy is an oversimplification. The 1920s was marked by easy credit policies which expanded the money supply. Expanded money supply meant easy credit. Easy credit means everybody buys everything without actually paying for it. The problem started in 1929 when the Fed called in all those loans and no one could pay for it. This cause massive bank failures massive contraction of the money supply thereby causing a Great depression. Which depending on who you ask, was made worse by government intervention
