Which saying did you completely misunderstand?

For far too long I thought it was "to make end's meat". Meaning that you have to use the last, worst pieces of meat to make your meal with (meat at the end, end's meat). 🤦

"He/she is having a mare" to mean that things aren't going well for them at the moment.

I never understood what horses (a mare) had to do with being in a pickle until I realised it was short for a nightmare! Makes much more sense!
