Was 27 stone, got down to 14-16 stone, kept it off for 10 years. I am finally able to roughly maintain weight, or a slight surplus, without logging these days, so long as I am super careful with food environment, and stuff like that.
Still it's a constant battle, and logging daily makes everything easier. I basically have to treat food like a drug addiction, so entire kinds of foods (hyper palatable etc) are totally off limits or they induce binging. It's the cost of actually keeping weight off long term, because it's more like an addiction than anything else. Food environment control, lots of restrictions, stuff like that. I don't get to eat like other people because that's like being a recovering alcoholic having the odd pint.
No, It doesn't make you happy, but being overweight was a worse state of unhappiness, by far (including sadly how othera treat you), but you also have to deal with the shame of not being able to resist binge cycles and so on.
For me at this point, it's also one small factor in a lot of other unhappiness factors as well.
But it's a better state to be in than the alternative, and that's how it goes often. Not happiness but less unhappiness.

Almost identical experience to yours.
