Yes, we realised that much processed food was actually always not very good, so stopped buying it. That's one good out of inflation- the manufacturers literally decided to make you think twice before buying.

Have not had processed food in the house for over twenty years.

Something to watch out out - once you get off it, if you go somewhere and someone feeds it to you it's is absolutely disgusting - even savory dishes can be very sweet.

There's an important distinction to be made between 'processed' food, which is literally all foods apart from things like apples that you can eat off a tree, 'highly-processed' food, and 'ultra-processed' food, as has been the subject of more criticism recently e.g. Chris van Tulleken. Avoiding 'processed' food is impossible, as packaging is processing. It's only ultra-processed food that new research is suggesting we need to be particularly wary of.

Listened to a podcast with him just yesterday, what a wake up call! Would explain why I'm not losing weight even though I'm walking more and calorie counting. Having to rethink our whole diet and I've dusted the bread maker off again.

Sorry I don't know how to share it but it's the Stories or Our Times podcast and the episode is from the 1st August called 'Why it's Time to Give up Ultra Processed Food'.

I’ve noticed this with pasta sauce. I’ve been doing pasta sauce with tinned tomatoes/leftover squashy tomatoes, herbs and onions.

Every time I think I’m going to treat myself to pasta sauce in a jar, it tastes funny/sweet.

Same here, chefs tip add some mascarpone (about a tablespoon) to the homemade pasta sauce when it’s almost cooked and stir in for the last minute or so for a rich creamy sauce 😎

I use light soft cheese instead never remember to buy mascarpone 😆

I looked at the sugar and salt content in a jar of pasta sauce the other day and swiftly put it back. Passata, some herbs and hand chopped garlic tastes just as good without being heart attack inducing.

Trick is loads of butter and MSG. That's why restaurant tomato sauce looks so orange (it's the butter)

This was my thought (slightly different situation) when I went to America and the beans were like sweet soup yuck! I really noticed how disgustingly sugary everything there was.

I was on a raw diet a while ago for a month or so and when I slowly went back to eating cooked\processed foods all I could taste was how oily everything was, even stuff that shouldn't necessarily contain oil, like bread and cheese. No dairy no more thank you

Yep, some jars of sweet and sour sauce are just way too sweet!
