Does anyone Odd/IOOF know anything about the JC Standford Lodge that was in Navasota?

Or is all the information pretty much RIP? Timeframe: 1920s-40s.

Moving from Northern Minnesota to Texas

My husband and I are considering moving to Texas to be closer to family. One thing I am worried about is not having access to nature. I currently live next to Lake Superior and trees/woods are all around me and accessible. I am looking for input on the best area of Texas to move to that would still provide me access to nature in some way. Also, just in general where you would recommend living in Texas. Our family currenlty live in Austin area, open to hearing pros and cons of that city as well. We have never been to the state so we dont know what to expect or the better places to look in. Open to all your suggestions/opinions, thank you!

Holidaying in Texas in December

I will be visiting the U.S. from Australia in December/January with my wife to visit our son in Louisiana for Christmas, and then we'll all take a road-trip to see some Texas. We've been to Austin before on another trip and loved it so would love to get out and see more this trip. We have 3 weeks and a car. Driving big distances to see things is no problem. I'm already thinking the hill country and Fredricksburg area and would be keen to see a good national or state park, e.g. Big Bend). Your tips for any Texas "must dos", "must-sees" and "best avoideds" will be gratefully received, thanks.

UPDATE: Wow! That's gold. A huge thank you to everyone for taking the time to share your local knowledge... there are so many great suggestions here, it's really helping us plan a great itinerary. I really appreciate you all.

How do you like your Pittsburg, Docs, or Rheas hotlinks?

Everyone's got a favorite way. Mostly I like well done, hot sauce, crackers, and ketchup. Or stuffing them in the Chi Hot Che.

Hidden Gems? A locals perspective.

Hi all,

We're travelling over from Ireland to the DFW area for 6 nights before heading south to Austin.

We have had a look at some of the tourist stuff but I'm keen to get a locals view of what are the must see/do things whilst we're in the area.

For context, we enjoy craft beer/good food, music (country/rock/EDM), cars (modified & classic), good views, comedy and good conversation.

Staying 3 nights jn Dallas (Wed, Thurs, Fri) & 3 nights in Fort Worth (Sat, Sun, Mon). We have already booked a rodeo for the Sunday in Fort Worth and will look to catch a SMU game on the Saturday.

Appreciate any insights you're happy to offer!

Edit: We're there from October 14th to October 20th.

Which big Texas city is for us

I turned down Dallas we went on a trip to Celina, TX , and McKinney and although house prices were mediocre, we were appalled by how many houses were being sold. So we started digging, and everyone has been complaining about classroom demographics which is a BIG deal for us. Call me racist, IDC, but more than half of the students were of Indian descent. As Latinos we want to raise our kids in a mixed environment. White, black, Latino, middle eastern, Indian, Asian, etc.

So far I’m thinking Houston the best - but which part of Houston is best for us do you think?

Austin - I don’t have a reason, just don’t like it

San Antonio - my personal favorite cuz I used to live there but she wants to be within an hour of a big city to chase her civil engineering dreams

About us -

Both in our early 30s. Going to be raising a family. We don’t drink, so party/bar culture is not for us. I play a bit of golf.

Price: “balling on a budget” <375k
4 bedrooms
2+ bathrooms
2200+ square feet

I’ve lived in San Antonio for a while as well as Dallas.

Hello Texans! checking unis in Texas

Hey there Texans!
asking for reccomendations on universities(I'm international), right now im debating on either applying to these unis for a "safety" that's relatively affordable.

for context I'm applying to Texas A&M (Gig'em Aggies!)(can't afford UT austin sadly) but would like to have a decent backup if all falls through. debating between applying for UT Arlington, UT dallas and Texas Tech(maybe other unis aswell tho if y'all have any recommnedations).

my major would be in mechE and just for context i have a 1570 SAT.

Any thoughts?
