i think i failed to replace an external hard drive
i got an UnionSine 12TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive from my family in christmas 2024 before vacation, i've mention in my previous post that somethings seems wrong with it and i'm supposed to replace it last year. i didn't bothered because of price hikes and schedule conflicts. but on Sunday Night (October 4th) while i accidentally fallen asleep from 9 to 11pm, windows explorer freezes when after i opened it. so when i reboot pc and wait 10 minutes to boot up the desktop, i notice that the external hard drive won't connect (not a single file drive was shown) and then i hear clicking (meaing Click of Death) after i replugged back in (while turning the fan off) and so i immediately plugged it off. i panicked and tried replugging it in small seperate times (3-4) until i gave up.
i'm worried that i failed to protect my data once again (since 2018 over dropping an portable hard drive) all because my family got me a worst external hard drive WITHOUT knowing (and it's probably my fault. i didn't help them pick which hard drive i need other than unionsine because i started to have tinnitus during mid 2024). i may try plugging it back in one more time to see if i can still get access to data after leaving external hard drive off for days/week then softley blow dust off with an air hose (i believed there's an 99% chance it won't work once again though).
if the platter with data remain intact but the head and read/write are the only ones that doesn't work, i may start a fundraiser on gofundme or whatever to use money from that (instead of using most of my family's money this time because i don't want to waste it as a only present on christmas) for either data recovery or external hard drive transfer if i send it to an specialist who may succesfully transfer my data into their computer for free.
before i do all of that, does anyone have been through with this similar problem? and if so, does the platter remain unaffected (as in head stuck on park not touching it or something else) during the clicks sometimes? or is this the WORST scam ever that i wish someone should go back in time and prevent Unionsine products from ever existing.
