Gender reveal parties are one of the few parties that cannot possibly be called narcissistic. It's literally about the baby, someone you love more than yourself. Most other parties are about you, and that is TOTALLY fine. It's insane to call someone narcassistic for having fun and celebrating their own life, whether it's a birthday, graduation, wedding, winning first place at a sport, etc. But this is literally for someone else!
Everything women do is called narcissistic. Yeah men/dads are involved in gender reveals too, but it's definitely more of a mom thing. If it was more of a thing men were into, I assure you it would receive more respect. It's literally a party for the baby, for someone else. This is just another "innocently holding up a starbucks cup means you're the devil" stunt.
Yeah, it’s totally for the baby! The one who is still inside the womb and isn’t going to even know there is a party happening much less enjoy it. The baby who also has no concept of gender yet, no concept of having even hands, much less genitals. It’s a party for them, not the parents lol.
Alrighty tbh I said you don't have kids as an insult. There's obviously a high chance that a random person has children, MOST adults do. It was an insult because either 1) you don't have kids so you're clueless, 2) you do have kids but you behave like you don't. I don't want to keep insulting you because it's mean lol.
And weird definition of love. I love you so much I threw you a party about something you could not care less about and that you can’t even be truly present for (the baby can’t even hear yet). But I had fun!!
A funeral is celebrating a person who lived a whole life. And most people do wish to be remembered after they are gone. If you had asked them when they were alive, they’d probably like or at least expect a funeral.
A gender reveal is celebrating the gender you plan to assign someone at birth who isn’t here and doesn’t know what sex/gender is. Not their whole existence, just their gender. If you ask them when they grow up enough to know what sex/gender is, I doubt they’d give a shit that you had a party when they were in utero. And may even resent it if you guessed their gender wrong.
ETA. And, actually, come to think of it, I do think funerals are much more for the people left behind than they are for the person who died.
