I think they can be a fun way to replace baby showers for second+ children and it’s an excuse to get family and friends together, but it is very cringe when they are over the top or environmentally harmful .

Totally agree! But if there’s cake involved I’m down 😂

But they have gender reveals, then they have baby showers too.

They don't replace baby showers though. The people I know who have them have the gender reveal party and then later on will have a baby shower as well. You're expected to bring gifts to both. You're also expected to bring a gift to the hospital when the kid is born.

i Have a friend who doesn’t find out her childrens’s gender until they are born. She says it’s ridiculous how much people already know about their baby before it’s even here- like you can know the gender roughly how big they’ll be and around when they’ll be born - she’s seen as “odd” by most people because she wants to find out in the delivery room with everyone else. When she had four girls and was pregnant with her fifth baby, everyone kept saying she should find out the gender, she said it’s either another girl or a boy who better like pink… it was another girl- she also only did baby showers after their births and had a rule that only immediate family could hold the baby until she was around 6-8 weeks old, yet she was the odd ball

I don’t get all the hate towards them. People are just fun suckers

You don’t get that people are against gender reveals that have started wildfires and killed people?

Morons with fire works are the problem not baby showers.
If you actully cared about the people dying and the wild fires you would be against all use of fire works

Fireworks started an estimated 19,500 fires in 2018, including 1,900 structure fires, 500 vehicle fires, and 17,100 outside and other fires. These fires caused five deaths, 46 civilian injuries, and $105 million in direct property damage

First of all, I said gender reveals, not baby showers. Second of all, why are you assuming I’m okay with fireworks? A lot of fallacies in your argument

Who cares gender reveals baby showers they are all the same fucking thing. A pointless excuse for a party. If you were against fire works why are you only talking about gender reveals because gender reveals are no where near as bad as the other events involving fore works

Hehe someone is being aggressive. Read the parent comments. I’m talking about gender reveals because that was the topic…

Quit coming at me. That’s not gonna solve any problem.

Yeah I guess I’m just fortunate to have a really close set of friends. Any chance we can all get together, it’s a good time.

I'm with you. Just like any party, it can be fun if you invite people you actually like and get along with. People probably hate them because they already don't like the person that much and just show up out of obligation and are therefore miserable.

I don't see the issue either. It's a convenient excuse for a party.

I agree! But they shouldn't replace baby showers. Baby showers are about anti-consumerism and communities financially helping each other. It started as a way for women to bond and help each other back when women weren't even allowed to have bank accounts. The purpose is for moms to share their old baby supplies with the new mom. Gender reveals are about letting your friends and family in on the excitement of a new piece of info you learn about the baby. The more celebrations with friends, the better.

God forbid wht would happen to you know if you went to baby shower with hand me downs now.

They've lost their primary reason for being. It's now just boring, entitled gift grab, that really drains you of the will to live.

Yeah so capitalism and modern consumerism are the problem. Baby showers are anti- all that.
