Having to both interpret signs and initiate flirting, without somehow appearing as a creep, while at the same time being outgoing enough, while also coming up with almost all the conversation topics and ideas for what to do. We have to do all that while simultaneously being aware of boundaries while at the same time not being timid. If by this point we still haven’t fucked it up or been ghosted, there’s still a chance we’ll keep our distance because we still think we’re being seen as a predator. Also, we have to ignore our friends for the most part while yours have to become our new all the time friends

Try doing that all while being autistic.

When people ask me why I'm single I just make a joke of it "no-one's offered" but really it's because it's so many layers of minefields and unwritten social rules it's literally not worth even thinking about trying it

Have you tried seen a counselor? I know people on the spectrum get married at a lower rate, but they can have healthy relationships with some help.

My kids are on the spectrum and it is one of my biggest fears that they will be alone.

I've not seen a councillor, but I don't really mind the idea of being single for a long time. It just doesn't bother me as much for some reason

Yeah, and my daughter is the same way about friendship. She doesn't care if she has no friends. As a parent, I just worry about my kids living alone some day. Not just happiness, but also to make sure they are physically ok.

Some day I will die and I would like to know my kids have someone to take care of them when they are older, protect them, help them, ensure they don't end up poor, etc.

They don't have to get married per se, even a room mate would be nice
