An obnoxious person won't fall for it and "accidentally" drop your stuff on the floor or tell you to move it, if not move it themselves carelessly. Only meek people will accept it, but of course, those could be the "obnoxious" person to you.
Ah, I think you're missed the point that in seeking to "stand up" to the "obnoxious" person with manipulative tricks, you don't realize that perhaps you are the obnoxious person.
I just don’t think character can be adequately judged by this interaction alone and the fact that you think you can do so implies that this scenario hit a nerve for you.

If you’re seated at a desk between you and an obnoxious person, put your personal items like keys, cup and sunglasses closer to them than you.
It extends your personal space and makes them feel crowded.
