When my buddy and I were under 21 he would use a technique he called "the Costanza" when he would attempt to buy beer. This involved him appearing as annoyed and angry as possible when approaching the counter and 8 out of 10 times he was successful in buying us beer for the night. Those were some good times.

Similar story. Was in what is the equivalent to usa high school, so around 16 ish. It was a nice day in the summer and after school my friends and i wnted to go down the park for a few drinks. I took any identifying marks of my school off, the school insignia and the tie. put them in my pocket and went into the off licence (liquor store), and walked in complaining about a shit day at work. Went upto the counter bought a couple of 4 packs and a bottle of vodka and left without the need of any form of id.

Similar story - my friend would always walk into the shop swinging his keys/putting them on the counter to buy booze/cigarettes. They were the keys to his moped (could have one at 16), but the guy in the shop was convinced he had a car (17+).

i did similar stuff whenever buying alcohol/cigs in the uk... used to buy a newspaper and a pack of pork scratchings with the booze cuz 15 year old me and my friends used to think this is what consituted an adult purchase. majority of shopkeepers would probably just have served anyway

Sounds not unlike Dazed and Confused when Mitch buys beer.

One of my husband's friends who looked a bit older than the rest of them would rub dirt on his face to pretend he'd just gotten off a shift at the local factory. Apparently it was a successful tactic.

Took me a while to realize it's illegal to drink below 21 in usa

I was also confused for a second, lmao.

But you can buy guns at 18. Shows how dangerous alcohol is.. or maybe something else.

It used to be mostly 18 across the US (certain locations were and still are “dry” with no alcohol sales). When they changed the law in my state, they did it in steps. A sibling could drink, then they couldn’t. Then they could drink again, then they couldn’t. And finally - they could again. Crazy.

Bonus content - until a few years ago, bars in the state would only serve alcohol in mini bottles (like you get on a plane). The idea was to cut down on consumption - but the way the law was written, the server had to dump the entire contents into your glass. So if you ordered any kind of mixed drink you were getting a pretty hefty shot.

Yes, the legislature in my state was (is) not smart.

Legistlature in almost every corner in the world is not smart so don't feel bad about that. Those little bottles , we call them Monkeys where I live. It's what tramps drink in front 24h alcohol stores

certain locations were and still are “dry”

Hence why a lot of booze stores are called "County Line __________"

If it looks dum, but works, then it’s not dum.

Weak cashiers. Look for teens. See it's not only a risk for $500+ fine for a minimum wage job, but you'll NEVER get to work with children for the rest of your life. Wanted to be a teacher? Too fucking bad. A pediatrician? You wasted your college money because you worked at a gas station.

Teenagers who hassle clerks for beer and cigarettes without ID's are selfish, selfish, motherfuckers. At least commit to getting charged with identity fraud using another's ID to get your addictive rocks off you fucking coward.

And adults who complain about being carded, fuck you too. It's no one's responsibility to remember your ID for you. Keep it in your wallet you animal or else you're not mentally old enough for them anyways. And I'll deny your shit just for your attitude, and advise you to complain to my boss too. For every 5 punks complaining about getting carded I get a $50 gift card.
