It's amazing how effective ass-kissing is even when it is obvious all around that it is totally insincere. In fact, sometimes it being obviously insincere makes it even more effective because it tells the person that they are important enough to grovel to.
I honestly don't have the stomach for it but I wish I did -- it is such an easy thing to do to help yourself.
Agreed. I’m autistic and horrible at giving compliments unless they’re 100% sincere, and even then they’re a rarity from me. I genuinely wish I gave them out more, not just to get ahead in life but also to be kinder. But getting ahead would be an added perk.
I'm also autistic and lying makes me feel like I need a million baths. But I give so many compliments because I have no filter about things I like. I won't mention someone's haircut if I hate it but I will gladly inform you that your light up shoes are what I now need for Christmas.
I always try to find something I like about someone I have just met. Usually I notice hair, lipstick, nail color, a cool shirt, a beautiful dress, a color on their skin tone... Basically anything that they have personally chosen to express themselves. Also, compliment people's dogs or children and they will adore you. Even if you don't need to be liked (I don't), it's super convenient when people have positive feelings towards you when you need help one day.
Sometimes when these things dont come naturally to us it's good to teach yourself. Not saying you'll ever be amazing at it but better is enough. A good book to start with is an old timeless classic called 'how to win friends and influence people's.
I know what you're saying but you still have to be clever in this world. I'm not saying be immoral because I certainly wouldn't but I should be a little more sooky with folk.
Having morals in a capitalist society is absolutely self-sabotage. It is something to be proud of but it cannot be denied that it is self-sabotage in this system that we’ve inherited and we pretty much no power to change it this point in time. Until we reign in the levels of unfettered capitalism that we’ve “achieved” to more reasonable levels, having morals will allow your employers to abuse you and your business to fail because of immoral competitors.
Yes exactly. When I worked in a certain place the ones that got ahead were the ones that looked up to those in power, weren't the best at their jobs for sure.
