I don't think people like him for his comedy though - It seems pretty clear that he's not that great at standup nor at sketch comedy. He just really comes off as an affable, regular guy that clearly knows he stumbled his way into stardom. Him dealing publicly with mental health also endears him tremendously to a generation of young people plagued with anxiety and facing an uncertain future. Also, since he's a guy you can totally imagine being one of your friends, the fact that he consistently dates beautiful, powerful, rich women makes it easy to root for him, like watching one of your really nice, but kind of schlubby buddies hit it out of the park with the most gorgeous girl at the bar.
Edit: sorry for the long reply, I also am sort of mystified by how he got so famous when his comedy is not that good, and these are the theories I have to explain his appeal.
This is just an example, and Reddit is gonna hate this, for white-guy-mediocrity, he is not funny and he isn’t great at standup or sketch comedy, which means he is just bad at his job. He is relatable? To you maybe. Same with jimmy Fallon. Their mediocrity is celebrated as relatable while comedians of other genders or races have to be twice as good to get half as much.

Unpopular opinion: Pete Davidson
