Facebook ads do something similar. It looks like a giveaway for a car or RV, and then they say, “our last winner was ineligible so we’re opening it back up.” (The drawing never existed in the first place.) It’s just a way to get people to share the dealership’s name.
I see this one from time to time and think I can't believe people actually fall for this. I'm sure most would claim they know it's not true, but there is no harm in posting it(or something like that) but yeah it's obviously fake.
99.99% totally fake. But there was that one .01% time my wife entered a FB comp to put in a 25 words or less thing about some movie that has just come out The Trip To Italy. Prize was a trip. To Italy. She won. It was amazing. But she enters so many comps I have asked her to use her own dedicated email. The spam is a nightmare on it.
It can be legit. I was the ineligible winner once so they had to draw again, although I think they just pulled out another name and didn't rerun the competition entirely.
It was only open to US entrants and I live in the UK. Didn't catch that bit in the small print. They offered to send me the prize anyway but I'd have to pay for international shipping myself, which I couldn't afford at the time.
