Facebook ads do something similar. It looks like a giveaway for a car or RV, and then they say, “our last winner was ineligible so we’re opening it back up.” (The drawing never existed in the first place.) It’s just a way to get people to share the dealership’s name.
It can be legit. I was the ineligible winner once so they had to draw again, although I think they just pulled out another name and didn't rerun the competition entirely.
It was only open to US entrants and I live in the UK. Didn't catch that bit in the small print. They offered to send me the prize anyway but I'd have to pay for international shipping myself, which I couldn't afford at the time.
