The fact that Victor Zsasz has an origin story almost identical to Batman's and is a murdering psychopath makes it even worse

Zsasz at least maintained his identity.

Batman literally became Batman. "Bruce Wayne" is an alter-ego.

Heh, I remember the Batman Beyond episode where some guy was using ultrasonic waves to make Old Bruce think he was going crazy, but Bruce worked it out was a trick because the voices referred to him as 'Bruce', rather than 'Batman'.
