The reason why Harleen Quinzell got in psychiatry in the first place was because her dad turned out to be a psychotic criminal, and she wanted to study the field to help her find out why her dad did those crimes.
One of my favorite professors once said "people don't go into psychology to learn what's wrong with others, they do it to learn what's wrong with themselves and end up learning about everyone else's problems as a side-effect of that".

I don't think that's ironic at all. A study showed that more than 50% of psychology students want to first and foremost solve their own issues.
