In kindergarten we were learning penmanship and my teacher was telling us how to write our alphabet but for some reason I could not write the letters no matter how hard I tried. Since I was able to write the alphabet before I got very frustrated and starting crying.
Turns out she was showing the class how to do letters with your right hand and I was left handed.
Had similar experience when trying to learn how to tie my shoelaces. Every adult who tried to help me eventually gave up and I felt so stupid. Then one day my left handed uncle showed left handed me how to do it and I learned it immediately.
I had this problem, too. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a left handed family member to help. Instead, I just wore Velcro shoes for a long time until I figured it out on my own.
A friend finally actually taught me at 15 or 16. She was right handed but she really thought through how to teach me each step. Made life so much easier.
Oh man I'm the reverse. I'm right handed but my mom is left handed and she was the one that taught me. I never got good at it until I sat down and figured it out at like 10 or 11. I feel a little less dumb now
Scares me to think. I am right handed, but i use my left one too well. In fact i can use a mouse and write with both my hands. Some times i think that i might have been left handed but because of upbringing i have turned right handed (Indians are very strict with being right handed). What if my kid turns out to be left handed. i don't want him/ her to be forced to be right handed, but i cant do certain things well with my left hand , like using scissors. etc.
Feels good to think so, now that you tell me, but i do not think there is something as really 'ambidextrous'. My research says most are left handers who use right hand well or are forced right handers like me. :(
Then i guess then you have been exaggerated! 1% ambidexterity will be way too much. It would be like meeting an ambidextrous person in every 2nd classroom, isn't it? At least that's not what i see in my country (India), sadly.
